"The best way to keep them imprisoned is to make the prison look like freedom." I don’t know exactly where I read this quote or if it’s worded precisely as I wrote it, but the gist is pretty clear, in my opinion.
Modern society has been an open prison for a long time; it’s just that many folks don’t see it that way. They think they have freedoms and freedom of choice, but in reality, they have owners. You and I have owners, no matter how much we try to convince ourselves otherwise.
A truly free person doesn’t pay taxes to anyone, isn’t jailed for dodging taxes, doesn’t have to slave away eight hours a day, five days a week, and isn’t fined for refusing to wear the damn seatbelt while driving.
As I’ve mentioned in a few previous posts, I believe the end of true human freedom began when they mandated wearing seat belts. I’m not against wearing them—I buckle up every time I drive—but I’m against being fined if I choose not to.It’s my own damn life, and I should have the right to decide whether I want to wear a seatbelt without risking a fine if I opt out.
There’s no turning back from this path... Oh, and Blackberry—why the hell did they kill Blackberry? It was said at some point that the Canadian brand was the only phone company in the world that truly prioritized privacy, and they had replaceable batteries. You don’t get replaceable batteries on phones these days.
Blackberry had a kill switch in the form of those replaceable batteries. You could literally pop one out and become untrackable. You can’t do that anymore with iPhones or Samsungs. Those things track our asses everywhere we go. Oh, and don’t get me started on the cameras...
I doubt the front-facing one is ever really turned off, and they’ve got machines learning our habits now. Man, the world’s become such a cage, and they don’t even need fences.
Humans have become so easy to control... Freedom of choice is an illusion in this era of constant data exchange between our devices and the beast hoarding all that data. I know I sound crazy here—it’s not the first time I’ve been in this spot.
But just think about one thing: how the fuck does it happen that every time you talk about a product or a place, the moment you open certain apps, you’re bombarded with ads for related stuff? Imagine the profiles they’ve built on us based on our digital footprints.
Does that mean we should go back to old Nokias and desktops? Not really... We could try limiting our smartphone usage, though. I can’t wait for the bull market to end so I can get back to physical work and stay away from my phone as much as possible.
Anyway, take everything you read with a grain of salt and have a fantastic Monday, wherever you are.
Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
