Why I’m Starting Over on Medium — And Why You Should Too
This is my drafting of a comeback plan — a focused return to Medium after years of detours, debt, and digital survival.

I’m curious: How did you begin here on Medium?

I’ve been meaning to start this journey for the past 6–8 months. But first, I had to finish what I started elsewhere — my Hive blog, which I launched back in 2018.

Over the last two years, that platform exploded for me. Followers poured in. Rewards climbed. And with them, my courage to write daily became unshakable.

It wasn’t just about clicks — it was about survival.

I was drowning in debt. Hong Kong banks were relentless — calls, letters, pressure. I dreamed of escaping — maybe to Thailand, maybe Vietnam — where $150/month from blogging might actually sustain me while I hunted for teaching work.

Teaching was my passion. But sending CVs into the void? For years, I got nothing. Not even a “no.”

My theory? In places like Southeast Asia, experience matters more than image. Unlike private academies that want polished, Instagram-ready teachers, schools there value substance over style.

And then — the crypto crash.

By January 2025, I had only ~$2,000 left of my original investment. I’d been dipping into it for months — just to keep up with loan payments. It hurt. But worse was the realization:

“If I keep doing this, they’ll eat everything — and I’ll still be in debt.”

No more.

I said it out loud: “Enough.”

I stopped feeding the beast. Let the system collapse around me. I filed for bankruptcy. Closed bank accounts. Cancelled credit cards.

Now? No calls. No harassment. Just silence — and freedom.

I’m officially outside the traditional system. And honestly? It feels like breathing again.

So… Why Medium?
Three days ago, I posted my first article.

Stats:

✅ 1 read
✅ 0 followers
✅ 20 presentations (whatever that means — but hey, it sounds important!)

Today?
✅ 2 new followers.
✅ Views climbing.
✅ Reads slowly ticking up.

I’m excited. Not because the numbers are huge — but because they’re moving. And that’s enough to keep me going.

My Plan for Medium
I’m committing to posting every single day — yes, even Sundays.

Here’s what you can expect from me:

1. Poetry in Spanish — One Poem at a Time
   I’m compiling a collection of my own poems. Each post will feature one poem + a short reflection on its design, mood, or inspiration. Think: visual storytelling meets lyrical intimacy.

2. Teaching Tales (2013–2014)
   Stories from my early days in the classroom — the chaos, the triumphs, the quiet moments that changed me. Maybe I’ll add reflections from my last decade in Hong Kong too.

3. Everyday Life in Asia
   My corner of the world — the street food, the monsoons, the expat struggles, the tiny joys. Nothing grand. —Just real—.

Final Thought
Maybe nobody reads this on a Sunday. Maybe the algorithm ignores me. That’s okay.

Because I’m not writing for the stats — I’m writing to rebuild.

To reclaim my voice.

To prove that even when life knocks you down, you can pick up a pen — or a keyboard — and start again.
