When a Typhoon Stopped Our Exam: A Day of Surprises in School

It was around 9:00 in the morning when my friends and I went to our school in college library. We were preparing for our major exam that was scheduled from 4:00 to 6:00 in the afternoon. The atmosphere inside was so serious but also a little fun because we were helping each other review. We opened our notes, highlighted the important parts, and even tested each other with questions. I was nervous about the exam, but I also felt a little confident that maybe I could pass. The hours passed by quickly. Imagine sitting for many hours just feeding your brain with facts and information. Even though the typhoon warnings were already spreading outside, we didn’t stop studying. Our main goal that day was to do our best and prepare for the big exam.

After a very long morning of studying, our brains were tired and our stomachs were also empty. By lunchtime, we've decided to go to McDonald’s. That meal felt like a reward after all the heavy review. We laughed, shared food, and joked about the possible questions that might appear in the exam. I also realized in that moment that even during stressful times, simple joys like eating with friends can make everything feel lighter.

By 1:00 in the afternoon, we went to the science laboratory for some experiments. We are doing some expiration like we heated crystallized salt in a test tube and observed what happened. Our professor also guided us through discussions, and I tried my best to pay attention and learn. Even though I felt tired, my mood was not bad at all. I think it was because I was happy with my past scores . I was able to pass, and that gave me more confidence. Instead of feeling discouraged, I felt motivated to keep going.
At around 3:00 in the afternoon, we went back to the college library to continue studying. Everyone was so focused, flipping pages and preparing their minds for the upcoming exam. We all thought that after so many hours of hard work, our efforts would finally be tested that day.
But then something surprising happened. Suddenly, there was an announcement that classes were suspended because of the strong winds and rains. The school declared suspension due to Signal Number 2 of the typhoon. At first, we couldn’t believe it. We had been studying so hard all day, giving our best, and now our exam was postponed to the next meeting. It felt both funny and frustrating at the same time. All our efforts of reviewing had to be carried over for another day. But in the end, we also realized that it was for our safety. A typhoon is something serious, and safety is always more important than exams.
When I think about it now, I believe this day was proof that life is full of surprises. Sometimes you prepare so hard for something, and then plans suddenly change. But that does not mean your efforts are wasted. The exam may have been postponed, but the lessons from the day will remain with me. I learned that we should always be ready for the unexpected and I learned that it is important to stay positive even when plans do not go your way.
