My yesterday was really a special day for me. I am a teacher and I was teaching to class 10th. A very small girl come me. She was only two year old. So tiny and sweet like small angel. She walk slowly to me and say, Sir g I want study. Her voice was so funny and soft that I smile big. I said, Okay my baby, come sit. She sat beside me, her little hands on the table, holding a pencil like she holding a flower. She didn’t know how to write but her eyes was full of shine. She wanted to learn so badly. When I told her to write A, she looked at paper and then start making some big round shapes. I said, No no, like this, and she tried again but her “A” looked like a small fish. We both laughed so much. I feel my heart so light in that moment. Then she draw some lines, circles, dots nothing was correct, but still everything was beautiful. Her every try was full of joy. After every line, she look at me and say, “Sir g, I did it!*** I said, “Wow, good job!” and she clap for herself. Her baby language was too cute. When I said “You are smart,” she reply with her broken words, Tanku Sir. Oh my God, that moment!. Her way of say thank you was so innocent. I almost have tears in my eyes. I felt like I am not teaching her. She is teaching me how to smile, how to feel happy in small things. She made me remember my own childhood. Her paper was full of random shapes but for me, it was a piece of art. After some time she said, “Teacher, you write.” So I write her name slowly. She looked at it like it was some magic. Then she tried to copy me. Her letters was going here and there, big and small but she was so proud. She show me and say, “Same same, teacher!” I give her a small star on paper. She jump with joy and clap again. That smile on her face it was pure love. She did not care about mistake. She just care about learning and being happy. Before going, she wave her small hand and said, Bye bye teacher. I said, “Bye my little champ.” She run to her mother and show her paper proudly. I watched her go and in my heart, I feel something very warm and deep. Sometimes life feel heavy but small moments like this make it light again. That little girl, her broken thank you, her messy writing all of it stay in my heart now. It remind me that love and learning both start with small, funny mistakes.
