Dash QR code swaps via the @MayaProtocol are coming to LeoDEX. This is the key missing piece behind enabling access to decentralized swaps to the rest of the Dash ecosystem.

A little background first.

Maya Adds Dash

The Maya Protocol, the first friendly fork of cross-chain DEX pioneer THORChain, added Dash as the first new chain after launching in 2023.

This enabled access for Dash users to a broad network of decentralized liquidity, from a broad range of digital assets, in just a few clicks, across fully-decentralized rails, in a way that Dash holders can earn a part of transaction fees via decentralized liquidity pools.

It truly opened up a wide range of applications, including earning Dash through social media posts via our partnership with INLEO, a Hive blockchain-based social media network.

The Maya integration truly represented moving Dash forward into a bold new future.

The "Connect a Wallet" Problem

However, we had an issue: almost no Dash wallets actually could interact with the Maya Protocol.

The way Maya swaps work is that a user will send a transaction to one of the liquidity pools with data in the OP_RETURN or memo field specifying the swap: for which asset, how much, to which address, etc. The ability to transmit this data from a transaction is usually included in Web3-enabled, MetaMask-style "connect a wallet" wallets, which are the norm in the smart contract world. In the legacy UTXO payment chain world, however, they're still a rarity. The main way in which Dash users could interact with Maya interfaces was through keystore wallets, which aren't common in either the Web3 or the UTXO world.

Of course, we have explored partnerships with other Web3-enabled wallets, and are working on an integration with the WalletConnect protocol. Dash swaps are also available via Maya internally in wallets such as Edge. We also partnered with Vultisig, a modern and highly-secure threshold signature wallet, which does allow users to connect to interfaces through VultiConnect.

But still, for most Dash users, they have to jump through a few hoops to use Maya.

The Solution: LeoDEX QR Swaps

Thankfully, the team behind INLEO and LeoDEX has added a key workaround: QR code swaps.

Through some magic involving single-use keystore wallets, the Leo team has enabled Dash swaps from any Dash wallet in existence. The user simply has to send to a QR code, then click a "swap" button, and receive their swapped asset to any wallet address. Just like that.

The team tested out the functionality with Zcash first, and enabled Dash swaps next.

Now, every Dash user everywhere can swap Dash for any other asset from any wallet, truly bringing this key DEX functionality to a community that largely has only started to get comfortable in the new DeFi future.
