A fitting message to start Tuesday's report that I found at the base of a subway beam. I celebrated my freedom from the day of teaching by going home for a quick outfit change before heading into Manhattan for a techno popup in Times Square by the world famous Deborah De Luca.
Here's the view facing north on the Williamsburg Bridge while riding the M train. I've labeled the three different NYC borroughs that can be seen over the East River. I walked over to Times Square about 30 minutes late for the 90-minute set.
Surprisingly, the crowd that gathered was very well behaved, although only a few people were dancing. I would have thought the crowd would have been bigger since we had gorgeous sunny weather after work. De Luca finished her set with some new tracks from her recent album and had a few of the vocalists on scene in NYC to sing along with the tracks. She even brought a live violinist to complement her DJ set.
There was another popup scheduled for 9pm at an old firehouse featuring BUNT, so I took the train downtown to SoHo for a bite to eat before getting in line for the next show. I also had the pleasure of walking by my old watering hole when I worked for the NBA and was dating my first ex-wife.
The Spring Lounge was the perfect neighborhood dive bar, with a relaxed crowd and personable bartenders. I'm sure it still is. I also walked through Little Italy on my way to the firehouse for the show.
I got to the firehouse about 45 minutes early, and the scene there was bonkers. The line to get in wrapped all the way around all 4 sides of the building. There was no way I was going to wait through that line to try to get into my second popup of the night.
Instead, I decided to add to my step count by walking to the adjacent Chinatown neighborhood for a sweet treat. I got matcha green tea and black sesame swirl soft serve in a red bean taiyaki cone. It was delicious!
All in all, it was an enjoyable evening with plenty of steps, techno beats, and tasty eats. I finally got home and collapsed into bed with my laptop. These Splinterlands battles aren't going to play themselves! Until next time...
