Floors - July 26, 2025 @goldenoakfarm

I had a relatively decent night’s sleep Friday night and was up by 6AM. The temporary helper was due at 7AM, so once the cat was fed, I started moving stuff out of the living room. The project for the day was cleaning floors.

I vacuumed the hearth off and the small rug. I moved as much as I could onto the hearth then started filling up the dining room. I had everything that could be moved in the dining room, except the coffee table, by 7:05AM. No person…

7:15AM, no person, so I called the on call supervisor, no answer…

At 7:30AM I called again, and at 8:15AM, in case the alternative time of 8AM had been selected by the person, no answer. So I expressed how displeased I was and went to sit down until I felt I could move it all back again.

Tom arrived to do the foliar and about 20 minutes later, he comes in and announces, “Your person is here.” And so she was, apparently a sick child delayed her…

So I carefully explained how I wanted things done and left her to vacuum. Then I explained how I wanted the floors washed and rinsed. When I had to move a lamp for her, I found she had not moved it when vacuuming and there was a good amount of plant debris.

She didn’t wring out the mopheads well so the floor was very wet. In order to move on (I had explained this) we had to dry it with more mopheads. They came up filthy. I showed her this, said this floor is not clean, please do better. I know she hadn’t moved the couch, etc as I asked, but I was too tired to get into it.

We moved all the stuff out of the dining room and put it back where it belonged and moved stuff out of the dining room. I left her to it. She’d either do better, or not. She moved the stuff back into the dining room when done.

Kitchen counters still full of office stuff and plants….

I next moved everything out of the kitchen, entry, and laundry room. She got started on the kitchen and then came to get me. She had to leave, sick child. Instead of 3.75 hours, I got 2. Sigh.

And she left me to move it all back again. So I chipped away at it during the day.

I’ve mostly been very disappointed with help when it comes to cleaning. They just don’t seem to know how. But the 3 rooms’ floors are some cleaner than they were, so there’s that.

I spent the rest of the day resting. I tried to nap but couldn’t so after a shower I was in bed by 8:30PM. The pain had started to get worse but I managed to fall asleep.

Sunday I was supposed to mow but it’s to rain all day. So I will attempt to get all the office stuff out of the kitchen that I can. Monday I have 2 appointments so no mowing.

Tuesday is to be really hot but no rain so I’ll have to get an early start at 8AM or earlier, depending on how much dew there is on the grass. I have to do the barn area too so it will be about 4 hours, if I can manage it.
