Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum in Mumbai

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India, is a prominent museum in Mumbai (Bombay) that showcases the history of India from prehistoric times to the modern era, along with various collections from around the world.
The museum was renamed in 1998 to honor Shivaji, the Maratha king, Shiv Chhatrapati Raja Shivaji Bhosale.
Before we visit the museum, I would like to explore the surrounding area in the heart of South Mumbai, near The Gateway of India, .
The famous Hotel Taj Mahal Palace is located facing the Gateway of India.
The gateway of India is usually full of tourists and street vendors.
The big statue of the great philosopher Swami Vivekanand creates some peaceful atmosphere in the hustle and bustle.
After around 500 meters of walking we arrive at the gate to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Vastu Sangrahalaya.
Upon entering we no longer feel we are in Mumbai. it is such a nice peaceful and cool atmosphere.
The museum is designed in an Indo-Saracenic architectural style, which incorporates elements from various architectural traditions, including Mughal, Maratha, and Jain influences. In total 3-acre area. The building is surrounded by a garden adorned with palm trees and flower beds. In the garden, the statue of the Prince of Wales is hardly visible from the entrance, because of the big trees.
In the garden, there is a striking huge Buddha’s head in a tilted position,
surprisingly, the back side of the head is hollow and features a sleeping Buddha statue inside it.
For visitors the entrance fee/ticket is necessary.
The entrance fee for adults is Rs.150, with an additional Rs.50 for the audio guide. For children, the fee varies by age. Foreign visitors are charged Rs.700, which includes a complimentary audio guide.
The museum offers a baggage counter where visitors can store their belongings, as well as a lost and found counter in case items are misplaced. There is also a first aid counter available for emergencies.
A proper visit to the museum typically takes around three hours. The artifacts on display range from Persian, Greek, Assyrian, Tibetan, and more, with many items donated by prominent citizens, including the Tata family and other significant businessmen.

Indian history is vast, offering endless opportunities for exploration. As an Indian in school, I learned a few things about our history, but visiting a museum like this and gaining deeper knowledge is truly invaluable.
