If you’ve been exploring Stakehouse Den—part of the Splinterlands universe—you’ve probably come across Hot Sauce. It’s not a condiment, but rather a reward-mechanism built to incentivize deeper engagement. As someone who studies tokenomics and game reward systems, here’s a breakdown of how Hot Sauce works—and why it’s compelling.

What Is Hot Sauce?

Hot Sauce is a reward token generated by staking cards and staking a secondary token called Script. To activate Hot Sauce generation for a card, you must stake 2 Script per card, regardless of its level. Once that initial condition is met, the amount of Hot Sauce you earn depends on three card properties: level, rarity, and foil type (regular or gold). Higher levels + rarer cards + gold foil = bigger rewards.

How Is Hot Sauce Earned?

The system uses something called a “generation factor”. The formula roughly is:

Hot Sauce Generated = Merge Count × Generation Factor for the Card

(“Merge Count” refers to how many of that card type or how merged it is; the more you’ve merged, the more weight it carries.)

The generation factor differs depending on foil and rarity. For regular foil cards, common cards generate the least Hot Sauce, legendary cards much more. Gold foil cards significantly increase your daily earnings. For example, at certain levels, a gold-foil legendary card can produce Hot Sauce at a much steeper rate than a regular foil common card.
