Clash Royale - Merge Tactics Review

After Teamfight Tactics, my interest in auto battler games increased. Merge Tactics, which I'm about to share with you, is also a mode of Clash Royale and is very similar to TFT. It's almost like a prototype version of it.

You can watch the gameplay video here:

Sorry about the vertical screenshots, but I have to do this for most mobile games. Unlike TFT, this is a 4-player mode. Just like in TFT, you place your team on the board and they fight for you. For example, here I placed the Raider and the Prince. Since the Assassin trait unlocks with 3 characters, I couldn't activate any traits.

In Teamfight Tactics, you take more damage at each stage and have 100 health. Here, you have 10 health, and the damage you take or the unit damage doesn't change at each stage. You take 1 damage per surviving enemy unit and 1 damage as stage damage. Let's say your opponent defeats you with 4 units and you have 5 health points. You take a total of 5 damage and are eliminated.

As you can see in the video, you don't have a button to refresh the shop. You need to buy a unit to refresh the shop. The bad thing is that when you buy a unit, the shop automatically refreshes. So, if all 3 units in the shop are useful to you, you can only choose one. You need to choose the right one strategically. You can see the potion costs on the units. Of course, champions with higher potion costs are stronger. But that's not everything. I think the Valkyrie, which is worth 3 gold in my shop right now, is one of the best fighters. She's very durable and deals good damage.

What a coincidence! As you can see, I defeated my opponent with 4 units, and since he had 5 health points, he died. Actually, there are 5 units on the board, but one of them is a soldier summoned by the skeleton king. The damage he deals does not affect your strategy master's health. So if I win with only that soldier, my opponent only takes stage damage, which is 1.

The assassin composition I'm currently playing is, in my opinion, one of the best compositions in the game, and it's very easy to play. You place the bulky champions in the front lines and the assassins in the back. The assassins jump into the opponent's back lines, easily killing their carriers and winning the game for you.

In a 4-player game, if you finish between the first two players, you get + points, and if you're one of the last two players, you get - points. As you can see, I finished 1st in the first game.

Just like in TFT, things like visit-like items appear at the start to diversify the games. For example, in this game, we start with a target dummy that has two features. This pushes you to come up with different strategies and different teams.

My puppet in this game had the Undead and Assassin traits. I played this game with 4 Undead, whereas normally you play with 2 Undead. The 4 Undead trait reduces the health of the enemy champions with the most health. This makes it easier for assassins to kill them.

It was another easy first place for me. Actually, winning first place isn't that easy, especially if you're playing at the 3000-cup level like I was, but sometimes if you're lucky or your opponents are unlucky, you can win first place in two games in a row. If you plan to play the game, I can suggest a few more different compositions. Just ask in the comments.

Looking at the pros and cons of the game, it's very short; I finished two games in a total of 12 minutes. A TFT match takes at least 30 minutes if you come in first. It can be played on mobile and is easy to learn, which are the positives. On the negative side, I can say that the game is very basic; most games don't require a different strategy, and the same compositions win the game. You can't see the damage chart, so you don't know which champion to take precautions against. You can't enhance your champions with items; they remain as they are.
Thank you very much for reading; I hope you enjoyed it. If you play this game, don't forget to share your thoughts with me in the comments. See you in the next post!
