Exploring the villages of Manali | A Local festival in Manali called Fagli

Hello my dear hivers!

So, this blog is about a festival called Fagli and celebrated in the Northern region of Himachal pradesh. Mostly it a festival of Kullu and Lahaul valley. This festival occurs in the month of February-March.

I got an invitation from a local friend and I couldn’t say no because I was also excited to see what this festival is all about. I reached at my friends house in the noon. He came to pick us up and took us to his home first. On the way to his home there was the temple of their Local Devta (god). We went there and took blessings. Then we went to his home. We had some lunch prepared by his family. They were waiting for us as they have lots of other guests to attend as well.

I asked my friend about the festival and he said it is called the new year of their people. They celebrate their new year and this festival has a different date of celebration to each vellage. It is a one month long festival and it is celebrated in all the villages of Kullu and Lahaul Valley.

All the people gather around the temple of the village. I forgot to tell you that in Northern Himachal, there are the Local Gods called “Devta” in all villages and they have their own rules in each village that all the villagers has to follow. And wherever these people travel they are being taken care by the other Villages. It happens vise versa.

During this festival there is a lot of sacrifice given to the Gods. It is very similar to the Vikings culture I must say. People can talk to their Gods through the one person chose by the Gods himself. It may sound unreal but the village people beleive in all this stuff. I myself have seen these things from my childhood and I alsp beleive that their are such powers existing.

We had a greag lunch in my friends house and then we sat their and enjoyed the view of Manali and after a while we came back and walked around the village. It was a great experience.
