As Jay's knife slid into his target's chest, the wild insanity in his target's eyes faded for just a moment. The being grabbed Jay's shoulders, looked into his eyes and said softly, honestly, "Thank you for freeing me, the nightmare's finally over." -- Anon Guest

They weren't always sent after the powerful fascistic type. Sometimes, they were sent after the cruel and unusual. Those beyond the CRC's long arm of jurisdiction. Those who could not otherwise be stopped.

Mengele-class psychopaths. Operating in areas where even the CRC agents couldn't go.

Yet the CRC had a further reach than the boundaries of the Galactic Alliance. Pax Humanis could get anywhere. They were good at it. They sent the particularly goal-oriented murderers to the furthest fields. The ones who could be trusted to do the job and return to their sanctuary. Like Jay.

He was unassuming, forgettable, and had a solid motive to return to the Alliance and the people he knew. He was quiet, and knew thousands of ways to avoid a dominating despot. He could, and would, vanish from the scrutiny of a power-mad maniac. But that was not his target this time.

His target was one working under a dictatorial despot. Fuel to the fire of their reign of terror. A worker in nightmares made literal flesh. Not just torment and torture. Experiments that should never be performed. Morals thrown out the window just to see what would happen anyway.

Truly disgusting things that, once seen, burned themselves into the brains of the viewer. Frightful, fiendish things that no decent mind should entertain. Some things that sickened even the members of Pax Humanis.

At least the pathological murderers were capable of killing quickly. Very few kept their victims alive so that they could suffer longer.

Jay found them working on another victim. So many horrors could occur simply through leaving out the anaesthetic. So many more could be the result of not using the proper tools.

Jay turned them around and stabbed them through their heart with the nearest knife, thus allowing the pressure to mercifully end the victim's life. They were beyond saving, and death was what they were likely praying for since the first blood drew.

What shocked was the reaction of the target.

The light and pure madness was fading from their eyes. "Yes. Yes, thank you. It's over. At last... over..."

Jay let them fall to the floor and went further into their lair to see what other mercies were needed.
