Happy Saturday, Hivers! What a gorgeous morning it is here in Lagos! The weather is just perfect, a lovely mix as we gently ease into the rainy season. Right now, I'm just enjoying the sheer bliss of being on my bed, listening to the soft pitter-patter of raindrops. It's moments like these that make me realize how truly wonderful Saturdays are, and that feeling sparked a little poem I'd love for you to read.

Saturday

The week's long hum begins to fade,
A gentle hush, a promise made.
Lagos breathes, a softer sound,
As Saturday paints peace around.

No frantic dash to Computer Square,
No sleepless gaze, no hurried prayer.
Just morning's light, a golden hue,
And gentle thoughts, emerging new.

My weary bones, they find their rest,
A tranquil moment, truly blessed.
The pages turn, a whispered word,
A quiet peace, distinctly heard.

Then fingers reach for softest thread,
A world of stitches, softly spread.
The gleaming hook, a steady guide,
Where silent joys within reside.

Each loop, each pull, a soothing grace,
A calming rhythm finds its place.
A beanie's curve, a cozy dream,
Woven by life's flowing stream.

The Jollof's scent, a spicy kiss,
A simple, culinary bliss.
Or cool delight of ice cream's swirl,
A sweet indulgence for my world.

This sprawling city, ever bright,
Offers its calm on Saturday's light.
A time to ponder, rest, and mend,
A beautiful, familiar friend.

So let the weekend softly bloom,
Dispelling shadows, chasing gloom.
A Lagos Saturday, fresh and true,
A moment just for me and you.

And that's my Saturday morning, captured in verse! This quiet time, especially with the gentle pitter-patter of the rain as we ease into the season here in Lagos, always fills me with a profound sense of calm and a renewed appreciation for life's simple pleasures. After the whirlwind of the week, with its early alarms, bustling Computer Village trips, and back-to-back online commitments, these moments feel like a truly luxurious gift.

I often find that poetry, or any form of creative expression, helps me process the world around me. It allows me to pause, observe, and find beauty even in the mundane or the challenging. This poem truly poured out of me, a direct reflection of the tranquility I'm finding this morning, contrasting so sharply with the sleepless night and the demanding start to my Friday. It's a reminder that even when things feel overwhelming, there are always pockets of peace waiting to be discovered, often in the most familiar settings – like my bed, my yarn, or the sound of the rain.

As the day continues to unfold, I'm looking forward to diving deeper into some of my favorite weekend activities. Perhaps it's more quiet crochet time, losing myself in the rhythm of stitches, or maybe just enjoying a leisurely meal without any rush. These slower moments are vital for recharging, for bringing my mind back into balance, and for preparing for whatever next week may bring. It's about recognizing that self-care isn't a luxury, but a necessity, especially when living in a city as vibrant and fast-paced as Lagos.
