I was drawn to the idea of ​​a post-apocalyptic world full of zombies, because you know how much I love excitement. And I'm telling you, from the moment I opened this book, I was immersed in this super raw universe where society has completely changed... imagine: walled communities fighting to the death to survive amidst chaos, where what was once "normal" no longer exists, it's a distant memory... the atmosphere... wow, it's oppressive and electrifying at the same time, just what you need for an action-packed story that keeps you hooked.

From the very beginning, I felt a mix of suspense and curiosity, you know? i found myself caught between the full adrenaline rush of the story's fast pace and those moments to reflect on deeper things like family, duty, and who we really are... the author writes with brutal honesty that makes you feel every scare and every tense moment as if you were there with the characters. Of course, there are some strong scenes, but they are not gratuitous, he uses them to show how hard it is to survive in such a wild world... but what really blew my mind was the twist he gives to the typical zombie story: Zombie bounty hunters! But be careful, they are not the typical mercenaries looking for easy money... they are people looking for their loved ones who turned into zombies to give them peace, an act of mercy, something worthy within all that disaster... this gives an incredible moral depth to the story, especially with the trading cards... Yes, yes, as you hear, trading cards! of these hunters, including the mysterious letter from the "Lost Girl".. this small detail makes the world feel more real, more complete, and, honestly, much more interesting.

Hola a todos, espero que estén muy bien, gran comunidad, hoy vengo con ganas de hacer otra reseña con mis opiniones, verán, agarré por pura curiosidad, Rot & Ruin de Jonathan Mayberry.. me llamó la atención eso de un mundo postapocalíptico lleno de zombies, porque saben que a mí me encanta la emoción, y les digo, desde que abrí este libro, me metí de lleno en este universo super crudo donde la sociedad cambió por completo.. imagínense: comunidades amuralladas luchando a morir para sobrevivir en medio del caos, donde lo que antes era "normal" ya ni existe, es un recuerdo lejano.. la atmósfera.. uf, es opresiva y electrizante a la vez, justo lo que necesitas para una historia llena de acción y que te mantiene enganchado.

Desde el principio, sentí una mezcla de suspenso y curiosidad, ¿saben? me encontré atrapado entre la adrenalina a full con el ritmo rápido de la historia y esos momentos para reflexionar sobre cosas más profundas como la familia, el deber y quiénes somos realmente.. el autor escribe con una honestidad brutal, que te hace sentir cada susto y cada momento tenso como si estuvieras ahí con los personajes, eso sí, hay escenas fuertes, pero no son gratuitas, las usa para mostrar lo duro que es sobrevivir en un mundo tan salvaje.. pero lo que realmente me voló la cabeza fue el giro que le da a la típica historia de zombies: ¡Cazadores de recompensas de zombies! Pero ojo, no son los típicos mercenarios buscando plata fácil.. son personas que buscan a sus seres queridos que se convirtieron en zombies para darles paz, un acto de piedad, algo digno dentro de todo ese desastre.. esto le da una profundidad moral increíble a la historia, sobre todo con eso de las cartas coleccionables...¡Sí, sí, como lo oyen, cartas coleccionables! de estos cazadores, incluyendo la carta misteriosa de la "Chica Perdida".. este pequeño detalle hace que el mundo se sienta más real, más completo y, la verdad, mucho más interesante..

Here we have Benny Imura, the protagonist... I swear you'll identify with him right away! His internal problems are what drive most of the book... imagine, poor Benny is there, trapped between following in the footsteps of his brother Tom, who is a famous zombie hunter, and the desire to make his own life in a world that seems to give him no chance at anything... at first, Benny doesn't even want to know anything about hunting zombies, but as the story progresses, he begins to understand what it really means to honor the dead and protect them, and his change of chip with the zombies is brutal, he stops seeing them as simple monsters and begins to recognize that dignity that his brother Tom tries to preserve with his method of "silencing" them. Wow, that development is profound, it makes you think...

The relationship between Benny and Tom, another point of the book! Their connection is full of resentment, admiration, incomprehension... like in any real family! That's what makes it so believable; its dynamic becomes a super-moving exploration of family relationships in a world that shows no mercy. Yes, zombies are a constant threat, but the real battles here are more of the head and the heart. Mayberry makes you think about what it means to be human when you no longer know where the monster begins and where the man ends... and she does it with a subtlety and intelligence that amazes you, which is why the story hooks you, going beyond the easy scares.

Mayberry's style is agile, it grabs you immediately, balancing the action at a thousand miles an hour with moments to truly think and feel. The narrative flows brilliantly, immersing you in a world where every page has tension, but also humanity. The dialogue is natural, and the descriptions, although detailed, don't bore you, they don't slow down the story; on the contrary, they add just the right amount of information so that the post-apocalyptic world comes to life before your eyes. That mix of action and well-developed characters is, without a doubt, one of the best things about the book.

Aquí tenemos a Benny Imura, el protagonista.. te juro que te identificas al rápido con él! Sus problemas internos es lo que mueve gran parte del libro.. imagínate, el pobre Benny está ahí, atrapado entre seguir los pasos de su hermano Tom, que es un cazador de zombies famoso, y las ganas de hacer su propia vida en un mundo que parece que no te da chance de nada.. al principio, Benny ni quiere saber nada de cazar zombies, pero a medida que avanza la historia, empieza a entender lo que realmente significa honrar a los muertos y protegerlos, y su cambio de chip con los zombies es brutal, deja de verlos como simples monstruos y empieza a reconocer esa dignidad que su hermano Tom intenta preservar con su método de "silenciarlos". Uff, ese desarrollo es profundo, te hace pensar..

La relación entre Benny y Tom, otro puntazo del libro! Su conexión está llena de resentimiento, admiración, incomprensión.. como en cualquier familia real! Eso es lo que la hace tan creíble, su dinámica se convierte en una exploración súper conmovedora de las relaciones familiares en un mundo que no tiene piedad.. si, los zombies son una amenaza constante, pero las verdaderas batallas son más de cabeza y de corazón aquí, Mayberry te pone a pensar qué significa ser humano cuando ya no sabes dónde empieza el monstruo y dónde termina el hombre.. y lo hace con una sutileza e inteligencia que te asombra, por eso la historia te engancha, va más allá del susto fácil.

El estilo de Mayberry es ágil, te atrapa de una, balancea la acción a mil por hora con momentos para pensar y sentir de verdad.. la narración fluye de una manera genial, te sumerge en un mundo donde cada página tiene tensión, pero también humanidad.. los diálogos son naturales y las descripciones, aunque son detalladas, no te aburren, no frenan la historia, al contrario, añaden la info justa para que el mundo postapocalíptico cobre vida delante de tus ojos.. esa mezcla de acción y personajes bien desarrollados, sin duda, es de lo mejor del libro.

But let's face it, Rot & Ruin isn't perfect. There are times when the pacing seems to go off track... after being so good, there are parts where they explain things over and over again, and it kind of drags on, and in others, boom! The action flies by, giving you no chance to catch your breath... a little more balance would have been great to keep you there, heart racing the whole time... and another thing, while the mystery of the "Lost Girl" and the collectible cards add an interesting twist, I feel like they could have gotten more out of that part, sort of hinting that there's something big going on, important consequences, but in the end you're left with the feeling that they needed to delve deeper into those details.

Now, if you like young adult literature and you like to be scared but also to have your heart touched, this book is for you... if you are one of those who enjoy zombie stories that go beyond the shooting and make you think about morality, family, and humanity, Rot & Ruin will hook you right away... it is ideal if you are looking for a post-apocalyptic story with an original twist that doesn't shy away from ethical dilemmas in the middle of the chaos... I recommend it with my eyes closed if you are looking for a young adult novel that hooks you with survival and makes you think a little further... my final rating is 4/5 stars, precisely because of that original way of giving a twist to the zombie theme and diversifying the genre... Pero a ver, hay que ser sinceros, Rot & Ruin no es perfecta, hay momentos donde el ritmo como que se va de lado.. luego de que es tan bueno, hay partes donde te explican y te explican cosas y como que se alarga un poco, y en otras, ¡pum!, la acción pasa volando y no te da chance de respirar.. un poquito más de equilibrio le hubiera venido genial para mantenerte ahí, con el corazón a mil todo el rato.. y otra cosa, aunque el misterio de la "Chica Perdida" y las cartas coleccionables le dan un toque interesante, siento que pudieron haberle sacado más jugo a esa parte, como que te insinúan que hay algo grande detrás, consecuencias importantes, pero al final te quedas con la sensación de que faltó meterse más a fondo en esos detalles.

Ahora, si a ti te gusta la literatura juvenil y te gusta que te metan terror pero también que te toque el corazón, este libro es para ti.. si eres de los que disfrutan las historias de zombies que van más allá de los disparos y te hacen pensar en la moral, la familia, en lo humano, Rot & Ruin te va a enganchar de una.. es ideal si buscas una historia postapocalíptica con un giro original y que no le escapa a los dilemas éticos en medio del desmadre.. la recomiendo a ojos cerrados si buscas una novela juvenil que te enganche con la supervivencia y te haga pensar un poco más allá.. mi nota final es de 4/5 estrellas, justamente por esa forma original de darle una vuelta al tema zombie y diversificar el género..
