“Here, in the same corner” is surely a response you could get from anyone standing on the street in my town of Montalbán, if you arrived and simply said: Good morning, how are you?... The thing is, people here tend to respond in a very particular way, with phrases that are often full of localisms... “Here, in the same corner” is more or less the equivalent of saying, “Very well, thank you,” and can be used anywhere, not just on a street corner as one might assume... Looking at these photos of street scenes which I share with you today on #Hive, I was immediately reminded of the kind of “friendly manners” tinged with a certain resignation and sometimes humor that are common among the people who live in my town...

"Aquí, en la misma esquina" es seguramente una respuesta la cual podrías obtener de cualquier persona parada en la calle en mi pueblo Montalbán, si llegases y dijeses simplemente: Buenos días ¿Cómo estás?... Y es que las personas aquí tienden a contestar de manera muy particular y con frases las cuales suelen estar repletas de localismo... "Aquí, en la misma esquina" es más o menos el equivalente a decir: "Muy bien, gracias" y puede ser usado en cualquier parte, no únicamente en una esquina callejera como podría presumirse... Y mirando estas fotos de escenas callejeras las cuales comparto con ustedes hoy en #Hive, inmediatamente llegó a mi mente esa especie de "modales campechanos" revestidos de cierto resignación y a veces jocosidad, que tiene el común de las personas que habitan mi pueblo...

And I, in my infinite leisure time, capable of entertaining myself with the most unlikely things, like to call these phrases “variants,” and I have some favorites, by the way: “Fine, but it doesn't matter,” “Fucked up but happy” (pardon my French), “Nothing new under the sun,” and “Better than a prisoner” are some of the most commonly used... But I've heard a very particular phrase a few times, almost always from very old people, which makes me laugh out loud when I hear it, and it goes like this: “Here, tying skinny dogs with broken ropes” 😂 Good heavens, it's the most graphic response to a greeting I've ever heard!...

Existe aquí una gama completa de respuestas posibles a una pregunta tan simple como: Hola, ¿Cómo estás?... A mi, en mi infinito ocio capaz de hacerme entretener con las cosas más inverosímiles, me gusta llamar "variantes" a estas frases, y tengo algunas favoritas por cierto: "Bien, pero no importa", "Jodido pero contento" (con el perdón de la palabrota), "Nada nuevo entre cielo y tierra" y "Mejor que un preso" son algunas de más común uso... Pero he escuchado algunas veces, casi siempre viniendo de personas muy mayores, una frase muy particular la cual me hace desternillar de risa cuando la escucho, y dice así: "Aquí, amarrando perros flacos con cabuyas rotas" 😂 ¡Santos cielos, es lo más gráfico que escuchado en cuanto a respuestas para un saludo!...

Obviously, we must take into account the fact that this is a town that has been severely affected by years and years of economic crisis, population exodus, and deterioration of everything related to infrastructure and public services (you can confirm this in my photos without me having to explain much about it, I think). So, the typical responses of the people here are marked by resignation, a bit of dark humor, exhaustion, and perhaps a need to protest and even nihilism... But that's how it is here, a town that is sometimes simple, sometimes complex, like the weather, like the people themselves...

Obviamente, hay que tomar en cuenta el hecho de que, este es un pueblo muy afectado por años y años de crisis económica, éxodo poblacional y deterioro de todo lo relativo a infraestructura y servicios públicos (pueden confirmar esto en mis fotos sin que yo tenga que explicar mucho al respecto, creo) Así que ese tipo de respuestas tan típicas de las personas aquí, tienen un trasfondo marcado por la resignación, algo de humor negro, el cansancio y quizás algo de humor negro, necesidad de protesta y hasta nihilismo... Pero así es esto aquí, un pueblo algunas veces simple, otras veces complejo; como su clima, como su gente en sí...

I don't have any special plans for this weekend, so if anyone asks, I'll probably be “Here, in the same corner” or maybe “Tying skinny dogs with broken ropes” 😂...

Para este fin de semana no tengo planes especiales, así que, si lo preguntan, seguramente estaré "Aquí, en la misma esquina" o quizás "Amarrando perros flacos con cabuyas rotas" 😂...
