1 Ply? No Buy!

I always smile when I think about the places I find ideas for blog posts....
This might get a little odd, but stick with me, you'll see a huge...Ummm....Nugget for businesses.
So I have spent the better part of October on the road. Driving trucks for a living, usually means we end up in truck stops and use a lot of public rest rooms. Now as you can imagine, some of them leave a lot to be desired. But generally, these businesses do their best to keep these places as clean as possible.
And we appreciate it. But this isn't a post about how clean businesses keep their rest rooms...It's in fact about...
Toilet paper.
O.k., work with me here.....
Lots of businesses say...They value you!
Tons of restaurants say...We are grateful for the business!
But then you have to use their rest rooms....And are presented with some of the cheapest, thinnest toilet paper known to mankind. And they will say...They use cheap 1 ply paper to save money.
I say.....This is really how much they value you!
If businesses are too cheap, to spend a little extra on something as simple as toilet paper...Don't expect much else on the service side of things.
Have you been to a certain 'large department store' in North America these days? This company is worth billions, and they provide their customers with....The cheapest brand of toilet paper on the market.
This may seem like a silly example in how to treat customers bad but I think it highlights a lesson for all of us...We really need to do better on the little things.
See, the little things are what can turn a brand into just existing, to something people rave about and talk about everywhere. The little things add up. It's what makes people feel not only welcomed, but appreciated in every aspect of their experience. And experience matters!
Whether it's an online business, or a real world set up, little things do matter. And maybe if these companies spend a little bit more on a little thing like...toiler paper....Their customers will feel like they are appreciated.
I know this is silly...
But as someone who built businesses for decades, something I always wanted to make sure of, was that my customers felt like their were appreciated. That they mattered. And all the smiles, hand shakes and nice words can get people into your doors, but after that, their experience will determine if they return.
Don't look at this post as something as 'basic' as toilet paper, it's meant to give a bigger picture on the customer experience and how you can turn someone from a one time buyer into a potential life long customers.
For me it's simple....
1 ply means, I won't buy!!!
