Sunset on the Sahara and a Night Under the Stars – September 2024

In September 2024 during my holiday in Egypt, I took a desert trip from Makadi Bay into the Atbaj Mountains. I wanted to see the sunset over the Sahara and experience something you can hardly find anywhere else — absolute silence, vast open space, and a night sky that looks like a living painting.

Sunset in the Atbaj Mountains

The most magical moment of the trip came when we reached a viewpoint among the rugged mountain peaks. The sun slowly sank behind the sharp ridges of the Atbaj range, painting the sky in shades of gold, orange, and deep red. The view was mesmerizing — the Sahara at this time of day looks like another planet.

Nighttime Stargazing

When darkness fell, everything became almost completely silent. An incredible number of stars appeared in the sky — the Milky Way was clearer than I had ever seen it, and the air was so clean it felt as if the stars were hanging just above us. Our guides pointed out constellations and shared stories from their culture. It was one of those experiences that stays with you for a long time.

Summary

The September trip from Makadi Bay to the Atbaj Mountains was truly exceptional — full of peace, wonder, and moments that remind you how vast and beautiful the world can be. If you’re ever in the area, spending a night in the desert is absolutely worth it.
