Mr. Jones - A chilling account of The Holodomor.

Alright, this is tough.
I want to start this off by saying that everybody should see Mr. Jones. I don't think that there's ever been a strong movie about The Holodomor of which I'm aware. This is a strong movie which really shows how evil socialism is to its core. It also shows that the New York Times was willing to bury truth in favor of politics a century ago; and, it's historically correct.
It's just not a particularly well made movie. The best images in the movie came when Jones was in Ukraine and they ranged from being completely black and white to about ninety percent black and white. The movie was also shot anamorphic with an all-too-often documentary camera direction. I couldn't help but think that the movie would have been infinitely better if it has been shot in black and white with spherical lenses.
The movie also lacked a sense of pacing. Everything leading up to Ukraine was fast. Ukraine was slow and methodical. Everything afterward felt like an afterthought. The ending of Return of the King felt more concise.
This is the best movie that I've ever seen with bad direction and a screenplay with unearned moments. It's important and compelling for all its flaws; but, it's undeniable that this story deserved and deserves better.
The socialist genocides deserve a treatment like that of Schindler's List. This is miles away and still more than worth your time and money.
