As I strolled along the pebble beach, I marveled at the striking cliffs that rise dramatically above the shoreline, made up of age-old rock formations that tell the story of Earth’s past. I spotted a few fossil hunters digging in the cliffs; Lyme Regis is famous for its fossils, especially those from the Jurassic period. It’s quite thrilling to think that these rocks were formed over 180 million years ago!
Continuing my walk along the South West Coast Path, I encountered several lovely viewpoints where I could see the spectacular sea views and the famous Golden Cap, the highest point on the southern coast of England. The fresh air was invigorating, and I took a moment to appreciate the natural beauty surrounding me.
Along the path, I met a group of fellow walkers—a family enjoying a day out together. They were sharing stories about their recent discoveries of fossils, which sparked an interesting conversation about local geology and paleontology. I learned that they had come all the way from Bristol just to collect some fossils they could take back home. It’s always nice to meet people who share a passion for history and the outdoors!
As I made my way back to Lyme Regis, I stopped for a traditional cream tea at a quaint café overlooking the sea. Nothing quite compares to enjoying a scone with clotted cream and jam while soaking in the beautiful coastal scenery. It was the perfect end to a delightful day of walking and exploration.
I can't wait for my next adventure! There’s so much history to explore, and I’m eager to see where my feet will take me next.
