I traveled 160 miles just to download a single game...
Cafe review

Call me crazy but that’s how dedicated I am just to actually get something I really want.

Okay, for those who don’t know 160 miles, that’s about 260km and in Indonesia, it basically stretches across multiple cities and a different province, all for just fast internet.

You can say, “ why don’t you just install wifi in your home?” or something like that. Aren’t there any places in your town with a fiber connection, you might ask? Well.. I’ve tried and nothing tops the speed in this particular cafe I once went to. There were more variable costs that were incurred and I regretted not just going down this route, traveling and at the same time downloading the game I’ve been on pause for quite a few months now.

I also did the math, it was more reasonable to travel 4 hours to actually download a game with 119 GB. From that cafe, it took me 3 hours just to download the entire game. Before, I tried downloading this game, Baldur's Gate 3 and it took me 12 hours only to be restarted the next day because at one point my internet got disconnected. It kept happening that way so that was the reasoning behind it all. I also downloaded BG3 back in the day from this cafe, so it only makes sense to go back there again. When I was still living in that city, it was a lot easier because I can just walk to this Cafe called Ekologi but now, I live about 160 miles away and that requires a bit of traveling just for this stable internet.

Since it has been almost a year since I went to this cafe, they apparently rent out a small office on an hourly basis for 170.000 or equivalent of $10 for 3 hours. They will come with extra faster speed since the area is closer to the access point. At the same time, I wanted to be at peace and had a conversation with a friend of mine. So, it was more reasonable to rent the place as actually, if you spend in the cafe, you can spend more than that much as their menu is on the pricier side.

This place doesn’t open 24 hours but they open fairly early. So, your best chance to secure a spot is coming as early as you can and get the best chair and spot in this place. Just like their name, this cafe combines natural elements into their architecture that makes you feel at home and never want to leave the place.

Back then, It was only a 10 minute walk from my place and I frequented the place whenever I needed an actual fast internet. You know, when people around here consider fast to be only 5 mbps and when I talk about fast, that means above 50Mbps.

Ekologi is the best place to be if you want stable and fast internet in the entire Yogyakarta. When it comes to their coffee and menu selection, they tend to stick with the basics but do it pretty well. For example, their latte comes with unique art that will make your day.

Another great coffee pairing in this cafe is their chicken nanban. Somehow, this rice dish goes well with their coffee. It has just enough vegetables for those who mainly eat protein.

Oh, let me tell you about their platter, it’s another great snack that you can have while waiting for your download to finish or simply while you’re talking with your friends.

Honestly, this cafe is so underrated because I have tried all the lists that supposedly have the best internet in Yogyakarta but they don’t really live up to its name. I rarely hear Ekologi mentioned, so this is it. The secret spots for those who are looking for an internet that goes beyond 50Mbps.

While this cafe pricing isn’t quite budget-friendly, customers who know how fast the internet in this cafe will not think twice. It’s worth it for the internet especially if you’re someone who travels frequently and doesn’t really have the need to have a fiber installed in your home.

If you’re currently traveling in yogyakarta, you should check out this cafe with great coffee and actual non-gimmicky fast internet coffee shop. See you around!
