Top 10 you should concentrate on while interviewing people

In past year, I had to interview many people. In the process I came up with some useful tips.

  1. plenty interview techniques test skills that are at best irrelevant to real working life
  2. you want somebody who knows enough to do the job right now
  3. or somebody smart and motivated enough that they can learn the job quickly
  4. Determine the difference between "enjoy hanging out with" and "enjoy working with"
  5. Don't create a combative interrogation, do an interview in a collaborative conversation
  6. you are looking for somebody who you will enjoy working with
  7. you are looking for people who are keeping on getting better at what they do
  8. if you have the slight feeling of interviewing an asshole, don't hire them, no matter how good they are
  9. if there is less diversity in your team, your team is worse than it needed to be
  10. live with hiring people takes a really long time and is really, really hard
