An old sporting glory forgotten

Near where I work, there is a place that has always caught my attention and, to a certain extent, seems a little creepy to me. Somewhere along Intercomunal Avenue in the city of Turmero, Aragua State, Venezuela, there is what used to be a futsal sports complex that became very important in the region.

Some indoor soccer stars spent many years here, forging a legacy and history for the sport in this state. But just as a place can be important and meaningful for a sport, it can also be destroyed and forgotten in a very short time.

It is impressive how what used to be a gym with a roof, wooden floor, bleachers, bathrooms, all in very good condition, has become what you now see in the photos: a completely abandoned place, stripped of all its materials. There is absolutely nothing left of the roof, let alone the wooden floor.

It was very interesting and, at the same time, disturbing to walk through those spaces that had already been destroyed, dark if you will, with a lot of dirt, dust, and debris. In a way, I had the feeling of being in a forgotten and even dangerous place at night. While I was there, I saw no signs of outsiders or homeless people living in the area, and that gave me some peace of mind.

But at the same time, I had mixed feelings, a kind of nostalgia, because at one point when I was a child, I was able to come and watch a futsal match, and that was a moment that had a big impact on me, because the venue was in perfect condition and soccer in the area was booming at the time.

It was a very exciting day, and now seeing this structure in its current state has stirred up many mixed feelings. I don't know if there is any possibility that this site could be restored. Honestly, I highly doubt it, since I even think it would be more profitable to tear it down and build a new building, given that, in its current condition, I understand that the costs could be quite high.

It is unfortunate that this site has fallen into such disrepair, because, as I mentioned earlier, it used to be a vibrant place, full of life and applause, where some of the region's futsal stars lived and made this a very important sporting venue. This is the first time I have posted anything in this community. I hope that, in the future, if I find places that lend themselves to the purpose of this community, I will be able to share them. Best regards.
