The UEFA Champions League has begun, and Liverpool went out with a late winner against Athletic Club last night. Now that was a match, but let's leave that for now as I write about Liverpool’s winger Federico Chiesa. It's no news at the start of each season in the Champions League all clubs are expected to submit the squad list for the season of the Champions League to UEFA for those players to be registered for the competition. Every team participating in this competition will drop the names of the players that will feature in the competition, and these names are picked by the manager, as he alone knows the squad he wants to work with for the competition.

Liverpool submitted their squad list for the Champions League, but what shocked me was when it was reported by Fabrizio Romano and different Liverpool sources that Arne Slot didn't add Federico Chiesa's name to the squad list for the new season of the Champions League. Federico Chiesa was keen on leaving Liverpool in the summer window to join only an Italian club, but everything changed after the death of Diogo Jota, and then Luis Diaz left Liverpool for Bayern Munich on a permanent transfer, which made Liverpool short of wingers on the left wing.

Honestly, I thought there was no point in letting Chiesa leave this summer because the team still needed a left-winger, and even though Cody Gakpo has been doing well in that role, I was still expecting Chiesa to get more game time this season. The main reason Federico Chiesa decided he wanted the move out of Liverpool last summer was because he wasn't getting more game time at the club last season. Chiesa is a talented player, and if you followed him at Juventus, you will know he was at the top of his game at the Italian club. The Italian played alongside Ronaldo and was even a key figure for Italy in their Euro 2021 achievement.

This decision by Arne Slot could influence Federico Chiesa to leave Liverpool next summer or in the January transfer window next year. There is nothing more I want this season for Chiesa to be involved with the squad and get more playing time this season, and if he doesn't give his 100 per cent when he gets his chance, then that will be on him, and the manager can decide to give him less game time. The season is still long with many matches to be played so I believe Chiesa will get his chance to start with the team this season.

Everyone on the team will be given a chance at some point as the season moves on, and the reality is not everyone is destined to play for Liverpool, which is the truth. I just hope Federico Chiesa does well this season, and if not, the doors will be open for him to leave the club if he wants during the transfer window.
Liverpool is off to a good start this season in all competitions, and I am looking forward to seeing the team win trophies this season.
