Why is it that Washington is pushing so hard to get some victory to show?

The warfare in Ukraine has been inevitable at least since 2014 or even 2008. In 2014 NATO finally opened up its big final push to place itself on the border of Russia within just a final victory march on Moscow. In 2008 NATO declared that it would absorb Georgia and then Ukraine and the Russians frustrated that leg of the advance. Meanwhile the pressure on China was building. The flash point was always Taiwan. But for 40 years things have been left undecided by a sort of gentlemen’s agreement called the US “One China Policy”.
Now the Biden administration and the “bipartisan” US Congress are threatening to recognize Taiwan and open up the deadly conflict with Beijing all over again. Nancy Pelosi has manufactured a new and deadly hotspot out of thin air, exactly as Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said.
Why is it that Washington is pushing so hard to get some victory to show? Because the failure and humiliation of 20 years of the War in Afghanistan was such a shock and it’s being capped by the utter failure of the war in Ukraine. Revenge must be had! Pelosi thumbs her nose at Beijing. Meanwhile, with Washington backing, Kosovo is threatening its Serbian citizens and provoking Serbia and the Israelis, obviously with Washington’s approval as always, are trying to grab some attention by murdering more people in Gaza. Anything to construct some semblance of victory where there is no reality to back it up.
Pelosi going to Taiwan and saying, “We come in peace” was a way to construct a facade of victory and dominance over China. The result is China’s serious military exercises completely blockading Taiwan between August 4 and August 9. The PLA sea and air forces are standing off the eastern coast of Taiwan in position to directly confront the carrier USS Ronald Reagan and its battle group which Washington announced was steaming towards Taiwan in anticipation of Nancy Pelosi’s visit. We haven’t heard anything more about the USS Reagan, thank God. If I were its commander I would turn back and head for Pearl Harbour and let Washington announce that it had ordered me to back the hell off.
