Choosing Rest on Purpose

It’s a wonderful day to rest and detach myself from a busy workweek. This is the only time I feel at ease without worrying about deadlines and meetings. On weekdays, those things drain my energy and build up stress, but the beauty of it is they also make me crave the weekend, so I can finally slow down and breathe.

Today, I’m reminding myself that having a job is important, but it should never consume my whole life. Work gives structure and purpose, yet life asks for space to play, connect, reflect, and simply be. That balance doesn’t happen by accident, it happens when I choose rest on purpose, when I say no to one more task and yes to a quiet cup of coffee, a short nap, or a long walk with no destination.

Rest is not laziness, rest is recovery. It’s the fuel that lets me return on Monday with calm, clarity, and a better attitude. When I’m rested, I listen more, react less, and handle pressure with patience. That matters at work because nobody wants to partner with a stressed, easily triggered version of me. The calmer I am, the better I collaborate, and the more I actually get done.

So I’m dedicating this weekend to relaxation, simple joys, and letting go of the constant urge to be productive. I’ll let my mind wander, let my body reset, and let my spirit catch up.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” — Anne Lamott

Here’s to honoring the pause, so we can return stronger, kinder, and ready for the week ahead.

Have a great day!
