Sweet Watercolor Memories - Hippie Market (Selective Colour Photography)

I'm not sure about you, but I find markets to be strange places... or maybe it's more a case of me being a strange person, and I'm OK with that 😂
Most people say they love the hustle and bustle of markets.
The jostle for bargains, the battles in bookstores for that elusive first edition of 'The Illuminatus! Trilogy', which you could almost definitely find hidden somewhere amongst the many stores at Las Dalias de Ibiza weekend market.
I am much happier having found a decent coffee shop or cocktail bar and sequestered myself on a stool to watch the madness unfold.
What I love about markets like this is the riot of colour, how people stand out among this cavalcade of dayglow merch and Ti-dye paraphernalia. I'm in no way dissing the hippie counterculture here, I grew up as a second generation Hippie and used to own more than two Tidye t-shirts myself 😉
But my writer's eye always finds the stalls and nick-nacks to be more interesting than the people in markets for some reason. This is why I chose to focus on the colourful textiles and the mirror in the stall in this attempt at Selective Colour Photography.
Even when watching someone mulling over a purchase, I can gain a glimpse into their personality through what they buy better than watching their general behaviour.
I guess this is because shops and markets are such a focused environment - you can see people's tastes, attractions and stylistic leanings right there in their choices.
As my picture shows at the beginning of this post, this is all a matter of perspective.
A better photographer might have chosen to focus selective colour on the people and environment rather than the stalls.
Highlighting where creativity lies for them, speaking to what excites their eye and perspective in such an environment.
All perspectives are valid, at least that is how I see it.
