TEACHERS VS DOCTORS

Growing up, I participated in alot of debates than I can count. Back then in school, I joined the literary and debating club solely because I love debating and I remember that I debated about this same topic, but what I don't recall is whether I was on the opposing side or proposing side. Talking about who is important between teachers and doctors in the society, we are stepping into one of the oldest and most though provoking comparisons, because at first glance, you will see that both profession looks incomparable because one works in the classroom shaping the minds of future generations, while the other works in the hospital saving lives. Yet, when you break it down, you will find layers of connections and reasons to argue for either side.

Let me start with the teacher. If you think about it, before anyone becomes a doctor, an engineer, a lawyer, or even a leader, they must first sit in a classroom. A teacher is the first builder of knowledge. They don’t just teach alphabets and numbers; they instill discipline, curiosity, and the foundation of every skill we later use. Imagine a world without teachers, who would explain how to read medical books? Who would train the doctors themselves? A teacher’s role is not limited to classrooms; they shape character, guide decisions, and inspire ambition. Even doctors once had teachers who guided them through their early days of education. That alone makes teachers the root of all professions.

On the other hand, if we are to talk about doctors, we are speaking of life savers, because without doctors to treat us, society would be crippled by disease, accidents and epidemics. There is no use for education if you are not healthy, because only a healthy person can achieve can go to school to learn. In the society, a teacher can help you to think, but the doctor ensures that you live long enough to apply that knowledge. In terms of sickness, doctors are the pillars of hope in the society. Take a look at the COVID-19 case for example, while schools were closed, doctors still stayed in the hospital risking their lives to keep others alive and that alone proved this point clearly. Your tomorrow might take shape because of the knowledge you got from a teacher, but that tomorrow can only be possible with the help of a doctor.

A classroom and a hospital ward are two different world but each of them carry an equal sense of dedication, because the teacher in the classroom works with books, chalk or marker and instill knowledge and ideas, while in the hospital ward, the doctor works with medical tool, medicine and the human life. You gain wisdom from a teacher and you remain healthy because of the doctor. So tell me which is more important, knowledge or health?

If am to give my personal opinion about this, I will say with all honesty that one cannot fully exist without the other. Because as teachers hold the foundation of every profession including medicine, doctors hold the curtain of life and survival. So in this regard, I will say both of them are indispensable as Teachers being the architect of knowledge and Doctors being the guardian of life.

Without teachers there are no doctors and without Doctors there are no healthy teachers, because together they keep the society running.
