Gardening Day - Butternut Squash and Pumpkins Harvested - by Sunscape

The vines all dried up, and it was time to pick the pumpkins and butternut squash.
I had 5 pumpkins that grew from the one plant and one of them was rotting so the squirrels and the deer got an early treat. I always break them up after I'm done with them for the animals.

Two of them are still mostly green but showing signs of turning orange.

I'm happy that I got this many from one vine, but the butternut squash vine only produced two squashes for me before the vine borer did the plant damage.

I baked the squash until it was tender and got it peeled and chopped up.

Once that was done, I placed them into portions to freeze for meals. The following day I vacuum sealed them. Now we can enjoy having some organic squash over the winter.

I had to take a photo of the Zinnia flowers along the sidewalk, they got enormous this year.

The bees and small yellow butterflies are having a great time on the flowers. While most of the annuals are already done for the season these border zinnias offer nectar throughout the fall.

I found a new sign to add to the back porch, and I thought it was perfect since it is my happy place to relax every day.

Porch time with Mika is the best part of the day as we sit and watch all the critters and birds visit the feeders. Mika is taking a little dog nap in one of the chairs next to me while I read my book.

Well, it is time to get back out into the gardens and harvest some more peppers and get them processed. Have a wonderful week everyone.
