Boomerang X, developed by DANG! and Devolver Digital, is a first-person arena shooter that features a unique boomerang combat and movement mechanic. This stylistically designed game with its cell-shaded graphics and thrilling music captivates players as they fend off waves of shadowy creatures within an enclosed arena. Players use their magical boomerang and various granted magic abilities to specifically target and defeat yellow-outlined enemies to proceed to the next wave. The game beautifully combines combat and movement with a sense of control, despite the kinetic gameplay. Despite a minimal storyline, Boomerang X offers a seamless flow of earning abilities and steadily increasing difficulty.

However, the game's cons lie in its lack of precision on the Switch's joystick, highlighting that PC might be a more desirable platform for it. The game also lacks in variety with its new game plus feature only delivering a change in enemy combinations. A steep difficulty spike in the final arena could frustrate many players too. Overall, despite minor gripes and an abrupt difficulty curve towards the end, Boomerang X stands out with its innovative boomerang mechanic, slick gameplay, and an intriguingly thin plot.
