Selling yarn hats at a punk market 😊 パンクマーケットで毛糸の帽子を売る

This past weekend we joined a 2 day flea market at a kind of alternative space. You’d best understand it as an independent music venue with couches where punks and weirdos like us hang out and hold events sometimes.

先週末、私たちは2日間のフリーマーケットに参加しました。それは一種のオルタナティブなスペースで、独立した音楽の会場のようなものです。そこにはソファがあり、私たちのようなパンクや変わり者たちが集まり、時々イベントを開催する場所です。

We weren’t quite sure what to expect as we have been there a few times for movie showings and concerts but couldn’t imagine people buying things there.

We weren’t expecting to earn any money, just to reconnect with some old friends who we hadn’t seen in a year or two. We knew people would be jamming and talking so we thought we’d just hang out and maybe sell a coin wallet or two for a total of $30.

私たちは何を期待すべきかよくわかりませんでした。というのも、そこには映画上映やコンサートで何度か行ったことがありましたが、物を買う場所だとは想像できなかったからです。

お金を稼むつもりはなく、ただ1年か2年ぶりに会う古い友達と再会することだけを考えていました。人々がジャムったり話したりするだろうことはわかっていたので、私たちはただそこにいて、もしかしたらコインウォレットを一つか二つ売って、合計30ドルくらいになるだろうと思っていました。

Well, we sold a coin wallet or two, and 5 or 6 hats and came out of the event with about $250! While not a massive success for an ideal two day event, it was far better than we expected.

Since it was a fundraising event and the venue told us the shop fee was pay-what-you-want, we gave about $50. It made me happy to see that our hats, though a bit cute were welcome even in this kind of grungy punk environment.

One of our goals is to be a bridge between different communities, so, I guess mission accomplished. Progress made on that front.

We also ended up meeting a bunch of new people as we do every time we go there. I got to jam on bass for a while which I’ve never done before. I really need to practice my scales.

まあ、コインウォレットを一つか二つ、帽子を5、6個売り、イベントから約250ドルを手にしました！理想的な2日間のイベントとしては大きな成功ではありませんが、予想よりずっと良かったです。

これはファンドレイジングイベントで、会場から「ショップ費用はお好きな金額で」と言われたので、私たちは約50ドルを支払いしました。私たちの帽子が少し可愛らしいものであっても、このようなグランジなパンク環境でも歓迎されているのを見て嬉しかったです。

私たちの目標の一つは、異なるコミュニティの橋渡しをすることなので、まあ、ミッションは達成したという感じです。その点で進展がありました。

それに、行くたびに新しい人たちと出会うことになりました。私は初めてベースをジャムしてみたのですが、なかなか楽しかったです。スケールの練習をしないといけませんね。

B made 5 new hats during the event and replenished her stock and 2 acquaintance’s from a live music chat group came to hang out. It was fun watching her accidentally attract a group of introverted people and being the most outgoing among them because usually she is the introverted one.

Bはイベント中に新しい帽子を5つ作り、在庫を補充しました。また、ライブ音楽のチャットグループの知り合い2人が遊びに来てくれました。彼女が偶然にも内向的な人々のグループを引き寄せ、その中で一番外向的になっているのを見るのが楽しかったです。普段は彼女が内向的な方なので。

These are two of the hats she sold. The first one she had made just a few days before and was bought by a lovely stranger. The second she had made about 3 months ago, intending for me to wear it but after I tried it we realized that despite my desire for crazy colors, the simpler Oni hat fit my personality way better.

これが彼女が売った帽子のうちの2つです。最初のものは数日前に作ったばかりで、素敵な見知らぬ人に買ってもらいました。二つ目は約3ヶ月前に作ったもので、私がそれをかぶるつもりで作ったのですが、試してみた後、私の「クレイジーな色が好き」という希望にもかかわらず、シンプルな鬼の帽子の方が私の性格にずっと合っていることがわかりました。

We will have one or two flea markets in local areas we are familiar with in March and focus the rest of the month on building up an online store. Then in April we will join a market at a campsite concert, which I’m ultra excited about because it’s a band I really like:

3月には、私たちがよく知っている地元のエリアでフリーマーケットを1、2回開催し、残りの月はオンラインショップの構築に集中します。それから4月には、キャンプ場のコンサートで開催されるマーケットに参加する予定で、これはとても楽しみにしています。なぜなら、私が本当に好きなバンドが出演するからです。

I guess I did well by applying to this. I never thought it’d be so easy, but I guess I was the early bird here.
