HiveFest Split - dungeons, crypto coffee and a whole lot of poker

HiveFest at its finest, I must say! (Read that in Yoda's voice, please!)
Thursday rolled around, and the lectures continued! I had a hunch they’d be in a beautiful building, and yes, it was, and also it was actually in a dungeon. Perfect for a history geek like me! Honestly, if we had a school here, I’d never skip a class. I’d be front and center every single day!
The weather looked a bit cloudy, and I thought it would be cold, but nope, we were by the sea, so it became sunny! A little windy, but still sunny. Not bad at all.
On day two of the conference, we had even more learning to do, and let me tell you—the location was perfect for it. After a good breakfast and (about 4) cups of coffee, I was pumped and ready to absorb all the knowledge. Some of you already shared details about the lectures, so I’ll just give you the highlights.
First, there was a greeting from an emperor and his bodyguards. It felt like being back in the middle ages. I swear, that emperor wasn’t born in our time, but how much he knew about blockchain and crypto was a little creepy. 😅 But hey, he kicked things off perfectly, and then the lectures began.
I was so into the talks that you could’ve set my hair on fire, and I wouldn’t have noticed. So much info! My memory’s terrible, though, so I kinda forgot the order of speakers. 😅 I won’t get into too much detail, because I hope those of you who missed it were watching the livestream. If not—sorry, fellas, you missed out BIG time!
I thought I learned a lot on day one, but wow, day two blew my mind. There’s so much more to know! I was especially interested when they started talking about Splinterlands. Since my husband runs a guild, I wanted to show him I can learn about it too, instead of always bugging him with “What are you doing on the computer now?” 😅
I used to be one of the first players in Splinterlands, but now I’m more into just collecting cards. Okay, fine, my husband does that for me—I just admire the art. Not a gamer, just a fan of the beautiful illustrations.
Then @arcange spoke about the future of Hive, and wow, his energy! After hearing his story, especially what happened to him, I was so impressed by how positive he remains. We need more people like that in the world!
And oh, @crimsonclad! She shared her Hive journey, from where she started to where she is now. It’s so inspiring! Her hard work and dedication showed that anything is possible. Plus, her personality? She’s amazing! (Also, she totally beat me at pool, but hey, we can’t win them all.)
There were so many more lectures, but if I tried to write about all of them, we’d be here forever. Then, something really heartwarming happened, they showed us a documentary that hit me right in the feels.
We all know life in Africa can be tough, but Hive showed how they’re making a real difference. They supported a project that brought clean water to a small village in Ghana. People used to walk two hours to get water from a contaminated river, but now they have access to clean water. It’s incredible! Watching that video made me realize how lucky we are to have easy access to something as simple as water. Thank u @mynewlife and @mcsamm for making this video, and a huge shoutout to @missbitcoin-sv, who visited Ghana and talked about her experience. We need more people like this who help others!
After the lectures, we went to a small bar where you can pay with HBD. I had my first-ever crypto-paid coffee, and let me tell you—it was GOOD! 😋 Watching people pay with cryptocurrency while standing around the bar was so cool. I’m sure folks passing by were wondering, “What’s up with this crowd?”
Yesterday, we had plans to go on a boat trip, but the weather had other ideas. Our captain canceled the trip because of the wild conditions, so @lordbutterfly organized a meetup at a fantastic bar instead. Some of us got there at 12:00 for a poker tournament. I don’t mean to brag, but I came in second place! WUHUU! 🥳
Later, more people joined for pool, darts, and just hanging out. I have to admit, I’m terrible at pool. I played with @lizanomadsoul, and we lost a bunch of times—sorry, Lisa! She’s awesome at pool, though, I was totally the weak link. 🙁
And now, here we are, today’s the last day of HiveFest. 😭 But wait—we’re heading to the RACE ARENA! Wuhuuuu!! See you guys there!
