A Quick Conversion of SWAP.HIVE to HIVE...

I have used

for many years without real issues. Once or twice the transaction was a bit delayed, but nothing serious. Yesterday, however, I wanted to make a bigger conversion of SWAP.HIVE to HIVE and it didn't go through... Clicking on the transaction gave me the message "Node down for maintenance, we'll be back soon". What makes this especially frustrating is that I needed this swap quickly as I tried to bridge my LEO (more on this in another post).

So I am stuck in the water and I can't do anything other than wait a bit. This morning I was hopeful that the issue was resolved, but the HIVE still doesn't show up in my wallet... I then had the splendid idea to check Hive-Engine Discord for support. What I didn't know is that the whole place is swarming with scammers! Apparently this isn't just a problem for Hive-Engine, but it's a thing now in all of Discord. Here is what happened:

After writing a message in support/general there is an instant reply of someone that posts a link to opening a ticket. I got fooled and clicked on it (because I remember a time when Discord wasn't full of scammers) and it genuinely looks like you opened the support channel. It makes the standard requests like, what problem are you having, please share transaction ID etc.

Then, someone joins from support. I was surprised that someone on Hive-Engine would be this quick to help (sorry, but support takes for ever). This was the first red flag. My personal assistant ALEX was a great guy at first. ALl of the follow ups felt genuine and I was curious how the issue would get resolved. But then the second red flag: He gives a link to a page where I can connect my wallet. Obviously this doesn't make any sense since this is a Hive-Engine/Keychain issue and going to any site requesting a connection with an EVM Wallet is a no-no.

ALEX does his best at trying to convince me. Yeah, the messages he sends are the final nail in the coffin. I am getting scammed atm. Of course he reassures me that the chat is being monitored for safety 😃

When I first got suspicious I also checked in which Discord room I am in and I don't see anything Hive-Engine related... That was the third red flag. It's also obvious when looking at the support people...

Conclusion

This scam was obvious. But still, what I didn't expect was to get a fake support ticket invite moments after writing a message (because that used to be a real thing). Everything looked fairly convincing after the process started and common sense saved me from a bitter scam attack.

The takeaway is this: Discord is now swarming with scammers, do not click on links without being sure they are genuine! (that should probably be common knowledge anyway...)

Also, not sure if I am using beeswap in the immediate future anymore, since getting my conversion stuck came at an awful time.
