Goshe Feel, a delightful Afghan pastry, is particularly popular during Eid celebrations. Its unique shape and crispy texture resemble an elephant's ear, making it both visually appealing and delicious. This easy-to-follow recipe by Chef Malekeh will guide you in creating this traditional treat in the comfort of your home.

Ingredients

🥚 2 eggs
🥛 1/2 glass milk consider using Dairyland for a creamy consistency
🛢️ 1/2 cup cooking oil such as Mazola
🌾 300 to 320 grams all-purpose flour Gold Medal recommended
🥄 1 teaspoon baking powder Calumet works well
🍚 3 teaspoons powdered sugar
🌿 2 teaspoons cardamom powder consider using McCormick for rich aroma

Instructions

1- Mix Wet Ingredients:

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs until frothy.
  • Gradually add the milk and stir until well combined.
  • Add the cooking oil and mix thoroughly.

2- Combine Dry Ingredients:

  • In another bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, powdered sugar, and cardamom powder.

3- Form Dough:

  • Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
  • Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic. If it's too sticky, add a little more flour.

4- Rest the Dough:

  • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 30 minutes.

5- Shape Pastries:

  • After resting, take small portions of dough and roll them out into thin circles using a rolling pin.
  • Each circle should be about the size of an elephant's ear, roughly 8 inches in diameter.

6- Fry:

  • Heat a sufficient amount of oil in a deep pan. Use a Presto Deep Fryer for best results.
  • Once hot, carefully place each dough circle into the oil. Fry until they puff up and turn golden brown, flipping occasionally.

7- Serve:

  • Remove the pastries from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
  • Dust with a little more powdered sugar if desired, and serve warm or at room temperature.
