Mud Pies.

In the last several years, I've been really convicted with the types of music I let into my brain and my heart. Which means I have let go of a lot of my secular favourites. Luckily for me though, there is a massive Christian and Worship selection out there and my playlist is filled with wonderful songs that bring glory to God. 🙌
Anyone who knows me knows that I am a massive music buff. I am just a fan of music in general. I love all genres (although if I had to pick one style, I am a country fan at heart!) which is why when I stumbled upon a new artist on Instagram , I was an instant fan.
His name is Brice Davis and he plays a more folk/bluegrass style but it's music of faith. I'm not sure I'd consider it worship because some songs are self reflective but it's all faith based music. But I mean, come on...blue grass and God together? Goes together like peanut butter and jelly, Amen!?
One of the songs on the album that I have on repeat is called "Mud Pies" and there is a lyric in it that I can't get out of my head. When I first heard it, I said out loud "Wow..." It goes...

It's just a simple lyric but to me, it was profound. According to Brice, it was inspired by Proverbs 26:11, Romans 7, & his favorite CS Lewis quote that says we are “half hearted creatures who are far too easily satisfied”.
This happens when we fool around with “mud pies” and fail to lift our eyes to see a far greater satisfaction offered in Christ. We keep going back to to the mud pies thinking it's good...sometimes because we simply haven't tasted the goodness of God yet, other times we dig our heels in and settle for the mud because we are content in our filth and other times we simply lack the self worth to bring ourselves up out of the mud on our own and don't know how to ask for God for help or we're too ashamed.
Proverbs 26:11 states, "As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his folly"
It got me thinking what areas in my life have I gotten used to "Mud Pies" rather than the goodness that Christ can offer?
We need to stop settling for mud pies. We need to stop returning to our filth. We need to find the kind of faith that recognizes that we can only be washed clean from that filth by power and blood of Jesus Christ and not by anything that we can do on our own. Once you taste and see the goodness that God has to offer, the mud pies will make you feel sick. It doesn't mean you won't ever be tempted to return to them because we fight our flesh everyday but as you ask God to reveal the areas in your life where you've been living off mud pies, He will help you fight those temptations and give you a new heart and a new desire to desire Him instead.
Therefore from now on we recognize no one by the flesh; even though we have known Christ by the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. - 2 Corinthians 5:16-17
You are a new creation in God. Remember that today. Don't settle for the mud pies. Ask Him to reveal the areas in your life where you are consuming them rather than His goodness. Don't be embarrassed because there is not an area of your life He doesn't already know about and yet He still loves you enough to die for you. Your prayer doesn't have to be elaborate or fancy; just sincere. ❤️
Oh, I'm a new man
In an old tank
Waging war against
The things I don't wanna do
I resisted
But I ain't killing
Lord put the dead to place
They're keeping me from you
