Made A Dress For A Marriage Ceremony
8 comments

Good day lovely people of needlework community, it's a privilege to partake in this week's needlework Monday challenge. Lately I've been busy with other stuff that sewing becomes a major challenge due to the time allocated to doing the work. But over the weeks, I've been up to something and one of those projects I was working on is what I'm here to share with you guys. One of our own had a marriage ceremony last week and as a result of that, sewing for the occasion became the next thing on my mind to do. Although I didn't initially plan to make a new dress for that particular traditional marriage occasion but along the line I had a change of mind and opted for it. The sewing process lasted for about four days because I didn't have stable light supply and I was joggling other tasks at hand as well.
I wasn't sure how long I would spend making the dress because I felt it was just a simple and easy-to-make style, not until I started the sewing process and realized it wasn't as simple as I thought, the whole lining process for different parts of the dress took quite some time.
Materials Used
- Fabric (Ankara and Plain Black)
- Clothe tissue
- Lining
- Shiny bias
- A pair of scissors
- Pins
- Zipper
- Marking chalks
- Ruler
- Measuring tape
- Elastic
- Thread
- Razor
- Sewing machine
Procedures
It all started from the cutting process, to the lining process, to the ironing too and then down to the staying of gum and tissue on the dress. It took a while to finish this one, but I'm glad it turned out just perfect and fit for the occasion.
The first step was the cutting, after which I lined the inner part of the fabric with black lining to give the dress some thickness. I went ahead to stay the dress with clothe tissue (the plain black fabric) to also give it some thickness since the plain fabric was quite light. After that, I lined and turned the sleeves as well, made opening for the elastic on the sleeve. After tuning all the dress parts with lining, I started seaming, from shoulder to shoulder (I.e. front and back cuttings), the sleeves and then the side seaming before finally attaching the zipper at the back.
Zipper attachment is always such a headache, I am still wondering how the professionals do it effortlessly, remember I'm still an amateur in this sewing industry, still self-learning at the moment, so it's always such a struggle with the zipper but I usually conquer that struggle still.
After attaching the zipper, the dress was ready to be worn for the occasion and you can see the result sitting pretty on the pretty lady.
I do hope you like this outfit, the overall sewing process was a tedious one, so I could use some positive feedback, criticism, support and encouragement thank you!.
