Saturday in La Cocuyera.

Last week on Saturday, February 22nd, I went out with my children for a walk, mostly to witness what was the 4th edition of the swimming crossing of the Orinoco River.
This takes place right on the Paseo Orinoco, by the Mirador Angostura, but where they call the Cocuyera, a name that draws much attention, others call it Playa La Cocuyera, but it is not like the other beaches that are facing the sea, as this is in front of the Orinoco River, but if we have a beautiful sand like those of the beaches.
This beach is not like the others that are there all year round, this one is not, we can only see it, enjoy it, when the river goes down during the summer, letting us see the beach, the shore, small waves, huge stones.
Although we arrived a little late, they were just starting, because first of all the competitors must register, the medical checkup because the activity is strong, then the rules and so start.
This year we added the pre-infantile category, the smallest, then the usual ones: infantile, juvenile, master and seniors.
The morning was sunny, but it was better that way, so that the activity was successful. In addition to a lot of security inside the river as the ambulance boats, boats to support if any swimmer withdraws or if something happened, which thank God nothing happened.
Also on the other side of the beach there was a lot of activity, some practicing volleyball and beach soccer.
Of the swimmers come from other cities in Venezuela, of course those from the host city as well, this activity is like the one that starts the other one that takes place later in Puerto Ordaz, which takes longer.
Between finishing a competition and waiting for the last one to arrive, they take a break to start the next one, we ate the snack I brought from home, juice and water, then we bought some ice cream.
We could not stay until the end, because the sun was already stronger and I forgot to take the umbrella, my children also wanted to go.
But I really enjoyed attending, this way we supported the activity, we got out of the house for a while too, from time to time we need to recreate outside the house.
