I remember as a child reading book after book to learn a little more about past eras. Then came the historical series and documentaries to satisfy my curiosity. Is there anything more fascinating than learning about the history of mankind? Of course there is, a lot of things, that's why I hadn't gone a long time without getting close to anything like a historical documentary, until now. Cunk on earth is a documentary produced by the BBC in which the history of humanity, from the origin of life to modern times, is narrated in a very special way. It stars the fantastic British journalist Philomena Cunk, who will take us on a fantastic five-episode journey through the most important moments in our history. Wait a minute, did I write documentary? No, I meant mockumentary. **Cunk on earth** is nothing more than a satirical representation of what a real documentary would be. From the first moment we hear our "presenter" speak, we know this is not going to be a normal show, it's full of hilarious gags and irreverent commentary, all written in the best British sitcom style. While we do go through the history of mankind, we do so in the funniest way possible. Surrounded by the most wonderful scenery that can be projected onto a green screen, **Diane Morgan** does an extraordinary job as the hostess Philomena Cunk. With incredible seriousness, as if she were a real journalist, she asks the most ridiculous questions and comments to the bewildered experts, who try to keep their composure in order to answer properly. These first few episodes were definitely my favourite, the amount of Philomena's rambling commentary is hugely amusing. For me, one of the highlights of these (and perhaps the series in general) was when she questioned an expert on whether any cave paintings had ever been adapted into a film. Her way of comparing everything to everyday things in the present day was one of the things I enjoyed the most and laughed at the most, for her everything was comparable to a failed relationship or the ridiculous anecdote of an acquaintance. After asking who "invented" civilisation and which was more culturally relevant, the Renaissance or Beyoncé's Single Ladies, anyone would think that a misguided teenager or influencer was asking the questions. In the last two episodes we take a tour of the contemporary age, which were, in my opinion, the least hilarious. That's not to say they were bad, it just meant that the opportunity for astronomically stupid comments and questions was reduced. In dealing with themes such as the world wars of the 20th century, Philomena is a little more sensitive to the events she is presenting to us. There is even a moment when we see her really affected, as she learns of all the damage done by nuclear bombs and that there are still countries with large nuclear arsenals. Of course it's all in jest, but it's still an excellent critique of the surreality of the situation. Even Philomena, who is not the brightest person on the planet, knows that it is wrong that such weapons still exist. Para mí, uno de los momentos más destacados de estos (y quizás la serie en general) fue cuando cuestionó a un experto sobre si alguna pintura rupestre había sido adaptada a una película. Su forma de comparar todo con cosas cotidianas de la actualidad fue una de las cosas que más disfruté y con lo que más me reí, para ella todo era comparable con una relación fallida o con la anécdota ridícula de algún conocido. Y es que después de preguntar quién “inventó” la civilización y qué había sido más culturalmente relevante, el Renacimiento o Single Ladies de Beyoncé, cualquiera creería que una adolescente o influencer desubicada es la que está haciendo las preguntas. En los últimos dos episodios damos un recorrido por la edad contemporánea, los cuales fueron, a mi parecer, los menos hilarantes. Eso no quiere decir que sean malos, simplemente significa que la posibilidad de hacer comentarios y preguntas astronómicamente estúpidas se redujeron. Al tratar temas como las guerras mundiales del siglo XX, Philomena se muestra un poco más sensible ante los acontecimientos que nos está presentando. Hay incluso un momento en el que la vemos realmente afectada, al enterarse de todo el daño que hacen las bombas nucleares y que aún existen países con grandes arsenales nucleares. Por supuesto que todo es en broma, pero aun así es una excelente crítica a lo surreal de la situación. Incluso Philomena, que no es el ser más brillante del planeta, sabe que está mal que sigan existiendo ese tipo de armas.
