Se me hace difícil empezar a escribir sobre mi madre y su situación actual. Mi mamá ha sido como toda madre, un pilar para cada uno de sus hijos. Hoy somos nosotros, sus hijos, quienes debemos ser ese pilar de fuerza y voluntad para ella. Mi mamá es una mujer trabajadora que desde que tengo el uso de razón no ha hecho más que ofrecernos lo mejor de ella. De ella he aprendido muchísimas cosas, sobre todo jamás darme por vencido y que un no sé puede, es solo flojera más no querer. Es chistoso pero considero que siempre estuvo en lo cierto tanto así que después que uno alcanza un poco la etapa de madurez logramos entender las cosas con mucha más claridad y es donde empezamos a decir: Mi madre tenía razón.
It is difficult for me to start writing about my mother and her current situation. My mother has been like any other mother, a pillar for each of her children. Today it is us, her children, who must be that pillar of strength and will for her. My mother is a hard-working woman who for as long as I can remember has done nothing but offer us the best of herself. I have learned a lot of things from her, especially never to give up and that if you can't, it's just laziness and not wanting to. It's funny but I think she was always right, so much so that after one reaches the stage of maturity we understand things much more clearly and that is where we begin to say: My mother was right.
Me siento muy orgulloso de ella, pues, aun cuando nunca fuimos una familia financieramente cómoda, siempre trabajó en base de que a nosotros no nos faltara ni un lápiz en nuestros morrales. Hoy en día me siento más bien decepcionado de mí pues mis estudios los abandoné hace muchos años por los que ella siempre estuvo en desacuerdo y es ese mi gran y terrible error, no haberla escuchado en su momento. A lo mejor hubiera sido el médico que ella siempre soñó en mí o aquel ingeniero civil que pude ser. Sin embargo, hoy soy solo Edwards Tobia su hijo mayor quien asume su error y responsabilidad. Gracias a ella y a Dios la educación nunca me faltó.
I feel very proud of her, because even though we were never a financially comfortable family, she always worked to make sure that we never lacked a pencil in our backpacks. Nowadays I feel rather disappointed in myself because I abandoned my studies many years ago because she always disagreed with me and that is my great and terrible mistake, not having listened to her at the time. Maybe I would have been the doctor she always dreamed of me to be or the civil engineer I could have been. However, today I am only Edwards Tobia, her eldest son, who assumes his mistake and responsibility. Thanks to her and to God, I never lacked education.
A finales del 2023 mi madre, Hyraima Conde empieza a tener una pequeña irritación en su pezón derecho. En ese mismo año acude a una dermatóloga en la ciudad donde vivimos y la misma solo le comentó que podría ser una dermatitis atópica lo que fue recetada para atender dicha zona afectada. Esa irritación nunca cesó y fue en agosto del 2024 que se realizó un estudio llamado Inmunohistoquímico donde pudieron detectar que lo que había sido una dermatitis resultó ser un Paget, es decir, mi madre fue mal diagnosticada, en realidad era un cáncer de mama T4. Por supuesto que todo nos cayó de sorpresa ya que nunca esperábamos dicho diagnóstico lo que nos hizo empezar a tomar decisiones que eran de suma importancia para mi mamá.
At the end of 2023 my mother, Hyraima Conde, began to have a small irritation in her right nipple. That same year she went to a dermatologist in the city where we live and she only told her that it could be an atopic dermatitis and she was prescribed to treat the affected area. That irritation never ceased and it was in August 2024 that a study called Immunohistochemistry was performed where they were able to detect that what had been a dermatitis turned out to be a Paget's disease, that is, my mother was misdiagnosed, it was actually a T4 breast cancer. Of course, everything came as a surprise since we never expected such a diagnosis, which made us start making decisions that were of utmost importance for my mother.
En octubre del 2024 se empezaron a realizar su tratamiento de quimioterapia la que fueron 6 sesiones cada una se realizaban cada 21 días las mismas culminaron con éxito. Al finalizar dicho tratamiento continuamos con el siguiente paso que era la cirugía la cual lleva por nombre Mastectomia bilateral profiláctica (mastectomia total)

En octubre del 2024 se empezaron a realizar su tratamiento de quimioterapia la que fueron 6 sesiones cada una se realizaban cada 21 días las mismas culminaron con éxito. Al finalizar dicho tratamiento continuamos con el siguiente paso que era la cirugía la cual lleva por nombre Mastectomia bilateral profiláctica (mastectomia total)

Dicha cirugía fue realizada este 10 de marzo. Que ocurre, luego de culminar sus 6 sesiones de quimioterapia la paciente que en este caso es mi madre. Hyraima Conde debía ser operada en un lapso de 40 días al culminar dichas quimioterapias. Se realizaron rifas, vendimias, entre otros. Ese dinero que se recolectaba cubrían los gastos de quimio y tratamiento farmacéutico. Existía la opción de que mi madre fuera atendida en el hospital de la ciudad de Cumaná - Venezuela "Hospital Universitario Antonio Patricio De Alcalá" lo que no se pudo dado a las condiciones que mencionadas por el mismo médico y amigos que trabajan dentro de las instalaciones era un riesgo ser atendida en dicho centro médico. Lo que nos llevó a buscar alguna persona que pudiera prestarnos el dinero que necesitábamos para la cirugía. Dinero que se logró conseguir dos días antes de la fecha indicada por el médico. Ahora tenemos la obligación de cancelar dicho préstamo que con un buen corazón no nos estará cobrando más allá de lo prestado y es por eso que acudo a ustedes, mi otra familia. Cada aporte que puedan dar sumará para la salud de mi mamá.
This surgery was performed this March 10th. What happens, after finishing her 6 sessions of chemotherapy, the patient, in this case my mother, Hyraima Conde, was to be operated within 40 days after finishing the chemotherapy. Hyraima Conde was to be operated in a period of 40 days at the end of such chemotherapy. There were raffles, sales, among others. The money that was collected covered the costs of chemotherapy and pharmaceutical treatment. There was an option for my mother to be treated in the hospital in the city of Cumaná - Venezuela “Hospital Universitario Antonio Patricio De Alcalá” which could not be done due to the conditions mentioned by the same doctor and friends who work in the facilities, it was a risk to be treated in that medical center. This led us to look for someone who could lend us the money we needed for the surgery. We managed to get the money two days before the date indicated by the doctor. Now we have the obligation to pay off the loan that with a good heart will not be charging us more than what we borrowed and that is why I turn to you, my other family. Every contribution you can give will add up for my mom's health.
La operación fue todo un éxito mi mamá mantuvo en todo momento la calma aun cuando se le notaban los nervios pues no era para menos. Su vida estaba cambiando. Al culminar la cirugía nos entregaron todo lo que extrajeron del seno de mi madre para que se realizara una nueva biopsia y poder entender cual será nuestro siguiente paso. Ese resultado se nos entregará en 5 de mayo del presente año. Muestra de la extracción del seno.
The operation was a success, my mother kept calm at all times, even though her nerves were noticeable, because it was no wonder. Her life was changing. At the end of the surgery they gave us everything that was extracted from my mother's breast so that a new biopsy could be performed and we could understand what our next step would be. That result will be given to us on May 5th of this year. Sample of the breast extraction.
Como entenderá, esta es una situación que nos mantendrá por un periodo de tiempo con gastos tanto así que uno de los tratamientos que debe seguir mi madre es el uso del trastuzumab el cual tiene un costo de entre 1200$ a 1500$ eso dependerá de la marca que se consiga. Este tratamiento debe ser colocado por 18 meses lo que quiere decir que para tan solo cubrir ese gasto necesitamos un estimado de 22.000$ que por supuesto no lo tenemos. Y esto es hablando solo del costo de este medicamento sin mencionar todo el resto faltante.
As you will understand, this is a situation that will keep us for a period of time with expenses so much so that one of the treatments that my mother must follow is the use of Trastuzumab which has a cost of between 1200$ to 1500$ that will depend on the brand that you get. This treatment must be given for 18 months which means that to cover this cost alone we need an estimated $22,000 which of course we do not have. And this is just talking about the cost of this medication without mentioning all the rest.
