Hey dear community, I hope you had a pleasant weekend which has brought many interesting experiences into your life! In my new post I would like to talk about an experience I had in Macau and hope you like my post.
The unique thing about Macau is the diversity that can be seen here and in addition to the influences from other cultures, there is also much of traditional China to see such as the old A-ma temple. This place was already built before the arrival of the Portuguese in Macau and also the architecture is reminiscent of traditional China, which is why it is no wonder that traditional peculiarities from ancient China can be seen everywhere. Anyone who should be here should not miss a visit to the temple, which is even declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and can be visited completely free of charge. The temple has a high spiritual value and many people can still be seen here who visit it to pray and some natives are regularly here to worship the gods. The temple also has an important mythological value and was named after the goddess A-ma who was particularly revered in the area and was considered the protector of sailors and fishermen and within the complex there is an own hall which was created for her.
There are also other names for the goddess and in addition she is also known as the Tin hau or Mazu and it's probably the best known deity in the area, but she is also revered in other parts such as Taiwan. According to legends, she gives everyone who is on the high seas the strength to reach their destination safely and also the name of Macau is actually associated with the goddess and the a-ma temple. There is also a separate festival to honor the goddess and during these days the place is particularly well attended and people come here to bring sacrifices, but also during other times come people here for these purposes. The origin of the temple can be traced back over 500 years, but there are no exact historical discoveries that prove more about the construction, but it is assumed that about 100 people could be involved in it, including numerous artists.
Thank you very much for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new and like my post! I captured these pictures with my Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens.
