For thousands of years, mills have been full of mythology and are often associated with mysticism and many legends revolved around this topic. In the past, I have already presented the general history of the mills in more detail and if you have the time and interest, I can recommend

contribution from me. I have already discussed an interesting legend when it comes to mills in the past, which is called the mill of rejuvenation and
my article is linked. By the way, from a symbolic point of view, mills are often associated with technology, creativity, happiness, wealth, transformation or art.

In Norse Mythology there is a legend that is associated with King Frodi and he was particularly known as a peaceful ruler and had a high priority. According to a legend, two large millstones were once discovered in Denmark, which could not be turned due to the size and from these stones a mill was then built for Frodi and Hengikjöpt is known as the creator. The special thing about this mill was that it could do pretty much everything you liked and was strongly tied to the magical and mystical. One day he summoned two women who had the task to grind happiness, gold and peace for him in the mill.

They had to turn the stones day and night, only in this way Frodi could be sure that happiness and peace would continue to prevail and one day the stones would break, which also mean the end of Frodi's happiness. Another story revolves around the mill and Krabat which goes in an occult direction and according to a legend, the apprentices learned black art in addition to the work of the mill. The master sacrificed one of his apprentices every year and every year after someone was sacrificed, the mill stood still for a few days and a new apprentice was hired and only as soon as he agreed to learn with him did the mill continue to work.

Most people from the area avoided the mill that they thought strange things would happen there and at the end of the legend two apprentices with the name Krabat and Kantoa managed to defeat the master. I would like to add another interesting legend from Finnish mythology from Kalevala, which also bears the name Sampo, which I have already discussed in the past and the post can be found

. In Norwegian mythology, the grinding of the mills is also associated with the sun and the grinding of the grain symbolized the sunrise and is also associated with energy and the cosmological.

According to Norwegian mythology, the grinding of grain is connected with fertility and the connection between the earth and the sky. The mills have always been associated with magical things and according to traditions from the Middle Ages, the turning of the mill wheel was also associated with the turning of the world and the sky vault. The mills were regarded as the center of the world which had the ability to influence the world and it was also believed that the mills could influence the fate and the course of people and also could make the world stand still. The grinding of grain has always been associated with fertility and was considered a donor of life.
