October 2020.

October is one of my favourite months of the year. The month houses a lot of notable dates like the national day which comes up every October 1st, teacher's day which comes up every 5th of October, my birthday 7th of October, international day of the girl child 11th of October, my late father's birthday 14th of October and October 20, the day of the fallen heros

A few weeks before this day five years ago, Nigerian Youth had an agreement for the very first time to stage a peaceful protest, the aim of the protest was simply to request for the government to put an end to police harassment and brutality and bad governance.

The Friday that preceded this day, the protest eventually got to my location. The protesters were seen standing around at our major bus stop doing plaque cards where things they requested from the government were written. As our bus drove past them, I could not help but admire their zeal and passion.

Before the end of the weekend, all the youth in Lagos state had gathered at the Leki toll gate staging their peaceful protest. In support of the act, the commercial buses stopped working. I trekked about 8km that day from my office to the house. The treek was what I called an endurance treek.

Between four to six in the evening, all the cameras at the Lekki toll gate were removed. Though I was not at the venue, I joined in on live videos. Later in the night the deed was done, they did what they had to do, cut the life of promising leaders short, rendered some parents childless and some children an orphan.

For days, we were not addressed. Even as you read this post no one knows who ordered the shooting or who those gun men were. One thing is sure, they were not terrorists. Then the name came up as black October. It may not happen in my generation but one thing is sure, revolution will take place.
