There are good options in Bali to fabricate cement tiles locally. Here are a few design ideas for a 20cm x 20cm cement tiles that we might use on the bathroom wall behind the toilet.

Each of the 6 rectangular planes on this image is made of a single tile design rotated randomly. I'm looking for solutions to break the repetitive effect of the tiling layout while using a single tile design.

This single design (below) of a cropped pentagon in a square tile creates interesting negative spaces when the tiles are rotated in a random fashion. The result is a collection of grey star-like areas that have strong resemblance with each other but that are also very different. They do repeat eventually yet it is difficult to identify two identical grey shapes.

Here's the Wikipedia entry on Pentagonal tiling (which is not what we’re doing here but related). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentagonal_tiling
