We arrived early in the morning and had two full days to uncover a bit more of what Naples has to offer. The first order of business? Food, of course. There’s simply no match for the fresh mozzarella and tomatoes of this region. Whether it was a perfect Caprese Salad or a Napolitano pizza, the flavors felt richer, brighter—almost like tasting these dishes for the first time again.
After lunch, we hopped on a train for a short ride to Reggia di Caserta—a destination we had never managed to fit into our itinerary on previous trips. During our planning, we discovered its cinematic claim to fame: parts of Star Wars were filmed there. As fans of the franchise, it instantly became a must-see. The palace itself was breathtaking—its sheer scale and grandeur surprising even in a country that’s no stranger to historical opulence. Nestled right in the middle of the city, it felt like a hidden world opening up just outside Naples.
That evening, we returned to the city for more sightseeing and soaked in the local energy as the streets buzzed with celebration—Napoli had clinched the national football championship, and the city was still pulsing with pride. It added a special layer to our dinner experience as we joined in the cheer and atmosphere over another fantastic meal.
This visit was exactly what we had hoped for: a richer, deeper experience that let us see Naples in a new light. Spending the night allowed us the flexibility to enjoy the area without rushing, and we left with a sense of fulfillment that had eluded us on prior quick stops.
Next time someone asks us if Naples is worth more than just a pass-through, we’ll have an easy answer: absolutely.
