Coffee Musings | Near-Stale Cake and other things

It seems to be quite a usual thing finding myself and @octocel having some dessert and coffee at @lapanetteria. It is a place with nice coffee and sweets. However, I do have something to say about the latter in this post.
The thing that it has happened more than once that we have something sweet and it is starting to get stale. Not to the point where it is disgusting, but you can start feeling the thing has been far too long in the counter. It is normal that sweets made in the morning start loosing their freshness as hours go by and the effects of oxygen start to become apparent.
I'm not trying to say they do a bad job, but I do not like to feel I am eating something that is going stale. The coffee keeps being a high note in the place, but today the thing of the sweet happened again. It also happened with this cake you see here.
This one is supposed to mimic the flavor of a MilkyWay bar. It does not do it, but it has some elements of the it. I think it is difficult to mimic the thing that goes in the middle. That weird kind of candy that has the flexible texture. I cannot remember the name of the thing, but it is almost always present in candy bars like the one mentioned above. Anyways, the cake piece was in that stage of entering the realm of staleness.
It is highly probable that we will revert to the days when we just went there for coffee and having a chat. It is a shame since the sweets we have had that were fresh were quite good. This cake, some pastry before and the cake from today all are examples of such occurrences. It is also really sad and it might make some clients stop going to the place altogether. I hope this does not come to happen. However, there are more places to get coffee around town. Maybe some of them with better and fresher desserts.
Having better coffee seems to be the hard part to match here. Something this bakery has going for itself is the cheap price and high quality of its black coffee. It seems rather weird to go out to drink black coffee. I can argue it is because I cannot make espresso at home. And I would not get a machine to make it at home. It is too much of a single-use kitchen appliance for my liking. And I think it would just consume too much of my time trying to get to the perfect cup of coffee.
One can dream about such things and ramble about the near-stale sweets. And that is pretty much what I do most of the time. But most of it I just like to spend it along my girlfriend listening to her update of her projects and teaching them some things about my work. Such things are best done with strong coffee and small sips. Maybe a kiss here and there and some pretty eye.
