Conclave Arcana: The Ulund Bloodline and Some Update on Scholar Showcase

Hello there! @saydie here, manually playing Splinterlands every day!

How was this season's grind doing for you? For me, it's doing great as I finally managed to reach Champion II, a day before the season ends, with all my energy used up. So, I will be fine even if I don't play tomorrow, plus the chance that I would remain in the Champion leaderboard and win 50k Glint, so long as I stay in the top 100 spot. The reason that I talk about that was because this season will mark as the second season for Conclave Arcana and the new Modern format. As you know, I've also been taking a look at Bloodline Dominion which is the new mechanics for conclave Arcana, where Archons can summon units that shares the same bloodline and give them abilities.

In this post, I want to talk about the Ulund Bloodline, which I think may have provided the best counter to one of the Rebellion's top meta when used accordingly.

The Ulund Bloodline

The Ulund Bloodline primarily resides in Pristine Northwest, particularly within the city-state of Ulundin. They are a bloodline that stands between 2.3 and 2.9 meters tall and weigh around 450 to 800 kg and can live for up to 120 years.

Greater Ulund societies are highly structured, pragmatic and skilled in governance, leveraging their patience, resillence, and management abilities to excel in different roles such as tacticians, merchants, and administrators.

In Conclave Arcana, the Ulund that has become the first Archon was Bella Ratajowlski and is the daughter of Mak Mkuu, Supreme Commander of Ulundin. But despite her high upbringing, she inherited her rank through discipline, perseverance, and might in tactics. As an Archon, she gives the Deflect ability to all ally units as well as the Shield ability to units which she shares the same bloodline.

In Rebellion, one of the most powerful summoner was Eternal Tofu due to its Thorns ability that makes it hard to use melee units in battle but because Bella Ratajowlski has the Deflect ability, all melee units on its team will be immune to Thorns damage, making her a good counter to Eternal Tofu team and at the same time its shield ability that it gives to its bloodline will definitely help in reducing melee and range attacks, allowing her team to last longer in battle..

Conclave Arcana Ulund Units

Among all the Bloodlines in Conclave Arcana, the Ulund Bloodline has the most number of units, with 9 Ulund cards. Four of these cards belong to the water element, while the remaining five are life units.

Also, one thing to note is that many of the Ulunds either have the Protect or the Void Armor ability as well as a huge amount of armor, which makes them harder to kill.

The Conclave Arcana Ulund unit is a mix of low and high mana cards, with more on the side of high mana, and many of them can also inflict a huge amount of damage. This means that if you want to have your team to be composed of mostly ulund cards, the mana cap must be huge.

Aside from the nine Ulunds, there are also three other Conclave Arcana units that can benefit from the Bloodline Dominion ability of Bella Ratajowlski and that was because they have the Shapeshift ability, making these cards of the same bloodline.

All in all, there are 12 units that can synergize and get the Shield ability through Bella Ratajowlski's Bloodline Dominion.

Ulund Units from Other Sets

When it comes to other sets, there is one ulund unit in the Foundation Set and 2 Ulund cards in Rebellion set that can be used in modern format. Other than that, there is no other Ulund unit in the older sets, which is quite surprising because looking at Jared Scar, you would expect him to be an Ulund, but turns out that he was a Dhampir.

Foundation Set

Yeah... The new Foundation set also brings to us another Ulund unit, though it was only at level one, so we do not know yet what its full stats will be. But given that it was a foundation card, its stats will not be that powerful.

Rebellion

The two Ulund units in the Rebellion set were not exactly that powerful. But they were also both at the higher mana cost side.

Scholar Showcase Update

Last week, I made a post, sharing my experience about the Scholar showcase as well as the potential issues that I saw in the program, such as the huge percentage of player nonparticipation and the potential of individuals using multiple accounts to boost their rank or perhaps even acquiring multiple scholar spots. And with that, the team has made some changes in the program by requiring the players to have a KYC, which I think is a good first step to make the tournament more competitive. I did not see an announcement of this, so I decided to just include it here.

I believe that for anyone who wants to be a scholar, having their identity known not only by the card owner but also the team is necessary to protect both parties, especially the card owner's side. Well, I did not do a KYC, so I can no longer compete in the tournament, but that is fine since I am not particularly aspiring to be a scholar.

And that was my initial assessment to the Ulund Bloodline of Conclave Arcana. I'm not sure why despite other bloodlines being present in the previous sets, the team has still decided to have Ulund to have a bloodline summoner even though they are only present in the modern set. Still, it has provide a great counter against Rebellion meta and bring more balance to the game.
